Inviting Applications for PhD Programme at IIT Ropar
Indian
Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) invites applications from Indian
citizens for PhD programs in various disciplines during second semester of
academic year 2012-2013. Eligibility criteria and areas of research for each
department are given below:
Sciences
Chemistry
Eligibility
Criteria: First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10)
or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in Master or equivalent degree in
Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry/Materials Science and Technology/ Pharmaceuticals
Sciences.
Candidates
meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional
requirements tenable for current year:
a) Valid GATE Score.
b) UGC/CSIR-NET qualification.
Area
of Research: Catalysis, Chemical Kinetics, Electronic Structure Calculations,
Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Organometallics,
Organic Polymer Synthesis, Reaction Dynamics.
Physics
Eligibility
Criteria:
First Class (6.5 grade point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ ST) in
M.Sc. in Physics/B.Tech. in Engineering Physics/M.Tech. in Nanotechnology.
Candidates
meeting this requirement must also fulfill one of the following additional
requirements tenable for current year:
a) Valid GATE score.
b) UGC/CSIR NET qualification.

Engineering
School of
Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering (SMMEE)
Eligibility Criteria: To apply for Ph.D.
program in SMMEE, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
1.
Master's degree in Engineering/Technology or a Master's degree by Research in
Engineering/Technology. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or
6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's.
2.
Master's degree in Sciences with a valid score in GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET/NBHM or
equivalent qualification. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or
6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's.
3.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic
record and having a valid GATE score. Candidates must have obtained at least
60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Bachelor's.
A
candidate with a Bachelor's degree from any IIT and having a CGPA/CPI score of
8.00 (out of 10.0) and above are exempted from requirement of GATE
qualification to apply.
Note: Mere fulfillment of the above mentioned
qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.

(TF) Group: Heat transfer, thermal engineering, thermodynamics, fluid

Candidates having M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electrical engineering or equivalent
degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) are eligible to apply.

Eligibility
Criteria:
55% (or 6 grade point out of 10) in M.A./M.Sc./M.Phil in Linguistics/English/
Economics with UGC-NET. Candidates interested in interdisciplinary research are
also encouraged to apply.

English Literature: American Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Modern

General
Information
· All selected candidates who are Indian
citizens and who do not receive any other scholarship or funding will be
provided financial support by the Institute. Admission to reserved-category
candidates will be as per Government of India notification.
· A limited number of Research
Assistantships and other financial support for attending conferences within
India and abroad are available as per MHRD norms subject to the conditions
prescribed in the Institute regulations.
· At present IIT Ropar do not offer part
time PhD.
· Mere fulfillment of the above
mentioned qualifications does not entitle a candidate to be called for
interview.

October 2012. Institute will not be responsible for any kind of
postal delay. Applicant should explicitly mention their expression of intent to
be considered for the research scholar position as mentioned above.

Applicants seeking admission in PhD programme other than SMMEE department,
apply through application form A, whereas applicants seeking admission in PhD
programme in SMMEE, apply through application form B provided on the institute
website.
