The research methodology workshop is a three day
short course, organized by Public Health Foundation of India – Bengaluru
Campus.
Objectives
Health care providers in India are closer to the
problems and may hold the key to feasible solution, however many are
handicapped by the lack of essential skills, access to information, and
opportunities to carry out high quality research. This course aims to introduce
basic scientific principles and research methods, and equip the participants
with basic skills of designing and implementing research studies.
How This Will Be Achieved
The course is structured in two parts. In the
first part, interactive lectures will be delivered on below mentioned topics,
and each didactic lecture will be complemented by group work activity.
Participants in groups will critically appraise the published studies from
India with the help of guided questions from the tutors. Practicals will test
the participants’ theoretical understanding of cause and effect principles and
the concept of bias, chance, confounder, and reverse causation. In the second
part of the course, case studies from India will be presented and participants
will be requested to design a research protocol for investigating the problem. Besides,
all participants will be allowed to present their research protocol and tutors
will give their comments for improvement. (Note: Presentation template will be
given in advance and maximum time for each presentation is 7 mins and 3 mints
discussion).
