Ph.D. Entrance Test in Bengali 2012


Ph.D. Entrance Test in Bengali 2012, applications are invited for admission to the Dept. of Bengali Language & Literature, University of Calcutta (Asutosh Bhavan, 87/1 College Street, Kolkata-700073) for Ph.D. Course and subsequent research work leading to Ph.D. Degree in Bengali. Desiring Candidates may apply in the prescribed proforma (can be downloaded from the University website) by paying Rs. 100/- through a Challan, obtainable from the University Cash Counter by 21 Dec, ’12. Eligible candidates (having Master’s Degree in Bengali) will have to appear in an Entrance Test of 100 marks, to be held in the Dept. on 2nd Jan., 2013 comprising a written examination, followed by an interview. Those candidates who have already passed UGC NET/SET or M. Phil, examination need not appear in the written exam. and can directly appear in the interview. Details of the Entrance Test are given below.

i) The Written Examination of one and a half hour duration shall comprise short answer type 5 questions of 4 marks each, 15 Multiple Choice Type Questions of 2 marks each and 25 marks for an essay. There will be no negative markings.
Examination will be taken in the Dept. on 28.12.12 at 2.30 P.M.
ii) Questions would be based markly on the current M.A. syllabus of Bengali, C.U.
iii) Candidates getting 50% and above in the written examination will qualify for interview of 25 marks.
Date for the interview would be displayed in the Departmental Notice Board.

At present 25 Ph.D. students will be enrolled, if qualified, under the empanelled supervisors, including faculty members and the external supervisors. Reservations for SC/ST candidates shall be applicable as per rules. Successful candidates will have to complete a course work of one-semester duration.

a) Research Methodology
b) Computer Applications
c) Research/Literature Review
d) Current developments in Bengali Language & Literature

Duly filled forms will be submitted in the Department within 4 P.M 21st December 2012.
