Programme ADMISSION - NOTICE July,
2013
The
Department of Business Economics offers Ph.D. in Business Economics.
Eligibility Criteria:
Master's
degree from the University of Delhi or any other recognized University in MBE/
MBA/ Economics/ Environmental studies/ Commerce with minimum of 55% marks or
equivalent grading or M.Phil, with minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grading.
The
student intake in the PhD programme will be determined by para 3 of revised
ordinance Vl-B, University of Delhi.
Selection
Criteria:
All
candidates are required to appear for an entrance examination followed by
interview in the Department of Business Economics, University of Delhi, South
Campus, New-Delhi-110021.
Short-listed
candidates will be called for second round of interview.
Following
weightage will be given to various components for the admission to the Ph.D.
programme:
1. Past Academic Record
(Marks
obtained in Post Graduation and M.Phil.)
10% weightage will be given to past-Academic Record.
Since most
of the candidates are expected from Economics and Commerce stream, following
mechanism of equivalence of marks obtained by a candidate will be adopted:

2. Research
Proposal:
20%
weightage will be given to the research proposal. This will be evaluated on
the basis of research aptitude and the clarity of the subject of the applicant.
3. Written
Test:
40%
weightage will be given to the written Test. To judge the analytical skill
there will be three exercises based on analytical writing on topics related to
Current Affairs, Economics and Business. Candidates will be required to attempt
any two out of these 3 exercises.
4. Interview:
30%
weightage will be given to interview
Course
work for the Ph.D. Programme:
All those who
clear the entrance test and do not possess an M.Phil degree will be given
provisional admission. They will be required to do course work; which is of two
semester duration, and will be evaluated at the end of each semester. Each
semester; semester I and semester II of the course work will consist of four
papers.
Students
can choose any four courses from ongoing semesters of the MBE Programme in
consultation with their Mentor / supervisor. In total every student will have
to study eight courses. Passing marks for each course is 50%.
Evaluation
will be done on the basis of written examination and the term paper for each
course.
Provisional
admission to the Ph.D. programme of these students will be confirmed only after
successful completion of course work and defense of the thesis topic in a
departmental seminar (See para 10 of revised ordinance Vl-B).
All the
candidates for the Ph.D. Programme will be governed by the detailed provisions
given in revised Ordinance Vl-B of the University of Delhi.
For
further clarification to 4(D) of revised ordinance VIB of the University of
Delhi it may be clarified that those who do not compete 2 years of teaching in
Delhi University as on date of admission will have to take study leave.
Admission
Procedure:
Prescribed
form is available from the office of the Board of Research of the Faculty of
Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Business Economics, Room
No. 229, Arts Faculty Building, University of Delhi South Campus, Benito Juarez
Marg, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi-110021, from Monday to Friday from 10.00 a.m.
to 5.00 p.m. from 1st March, 2013.

Candidates
are required to submit a research proposal of around ten typed pages along with
the prescribed form. Areas of study in which research proposal will be accepted
are as following:
Business
Enterprise focus study - SME, innovation, clusters, etc, Labour Economics,
Industrial Economics, Development Issues and Macro Issues-FDI, Foreign Capital,
Mergers, Inflation, Environmental Economics, Resource Economics, Climate Change
and Energy Economics, Economics of waste, Informal sector and Industry.
The research
proposal should be as per the format attached.
Note:
Candidates are encouraged to contact individual faculty member with a draft of
their proposal well before the deadline, in order to ensure that the proposal
is properly formulated and the subject is acceptable to a potential supervisor.
