Admission criteria for Ph.D:
The admission to the Ph.D Programme is done in the beginning of each semester. The candidates with at least 55% marks in the master degree in the relevant subject concerned need to appear for an entrance test followed by interview which will be conducted by the respective Departments. The candidates will be selected according to merit determined after giving suitable weightage to the following:
1(a) (i) Persons with M.Phil, Degree from this University
     (ii) Students securing average “A grade of 60% and above in the course work of M.Phil. Programme of this University.
     (iii) Percentage of marks in Master Degree or equivalent (at-least 50% in case SC/ST candidates ).
     (iv) Performance in the test and interview.

1(b) Candidates qualifying in any of the National Eligibility Test (NET) recognized by the UGC will also be considered for selection.

1(c) Subject to availability of seats, candidates belonging to the following categories and possessing a master degree may also be admitted on the recommendation of the Department.
 i. Recognized regular employees of NU.
 ii. Teachers of colleges affiliated to this University possessing Masters degree with experience of at least 3 years of continuous service.
 iii. Person with M.Phil degree from other recognized Universities.
 iv. Person who have completed at least three years of research in a research laboratory/Institute.
 v. Persons having Master degree in the relevant subject and at least 9 (nine) year experience in administration, Management and specialized knowledge in the proposed field of research to the satisfaction of the department concerned.
 vi. Persons who completed at least one year of research in a University/Institution after his/her registration, provisional or otherwise under the supervision of a teacher, who may have since joined the University, Relaxation for SC.ST candidates will be given
as per UGC guidelines.1(d) Full time research scholar will be given preference.
1(e) Persons with JRF would be given preference.
1(f) Full time to part time scholar under any guide would be in the ratio of 3:1 and maximum number of Scholar should not exceed under a Professor 8, Associate Professor 6, and assistant professor 4.

Admission criteria for PG courses
Applicant must have passed three-year Degree Course with Honours/Major with 50% marks and for General stream students of Arts, Commerce and science with 55% in the concerned subjects in which admission is sought.
5% marks relaxation for SC/ST category will be considered.
The applicants who have graduated from Colleges (Private/Govt./Autonomous) affiliated to Nagaland University shall be entitled to 10% weightage of Bonus marks over others. For instance, a candidate who passed out from any college affiliated to Nagaland University with 60% marks in graduation will get 6% as additional weightage and his/her total percentage will become 66% while drawing the merit index of selection.

Application form and prospectus can be obtained from the University Campuses at Lumami, Meriema and Dimapur on cash payment of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred) only for SC/ST and Rs. 250/- (Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty ) only for general category candidates or by sending a written request to the Registrar, Nagaland University, Lumami- 798627 along with a bank draft in favour of Nagaland University, drawn at State Bank of India payable at Lumami, with self addressed stamped envelope (worth Rs. 60/-). The duly filled in form complete in all respects must reach the Office of the respective Head of Department on or before July 2, 2013.
