Master of Applied Epidemiology and Master of Public Health (Health Services Development and Research) off-campus courses
National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR), Second Main Road, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Ayapakkam, Ambattur, Chennai-600 077, under Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has invited applications from Medical Graduates for admission to the Master of Applied Epidemiology and Master of Public Health (Health Services Development and Research) off-campus courses, of the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, recognized by Medical Council of India, conducted by ICMR School of Public Health at the National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai. Both Courses extend from July 2009 to June 2011.
The Master of Applied Epidemiology (Field Epidemiology Training Programme) (MAE-FETP) course aims to develop and strengthen action-oriented competencies among the scholars in (i) Bio-statistics and Epidemiology (ii) Health Information Systems/Surveillance (iii) Outbreak Investigation and Response (iv) Epidemiological Investigations (v) Human Subject Protection (vi) Oral Scientific Presentations and (vii) Scientific Writing. Admission is open to Government sponsored and Private candidates. 15 candidates will be admitted. Preference will be given to candidates sponsored by the Central/State Governments /Union Territories and Armed Forces. Two seats are reserved for candidates from North- Eastern States of India (Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya).
The Master of Public Health (MPH) (Health Services Development and Research) course is designed to introduce the students to the basic principles of Public Health, with emphasis on Public Health practices in India. It will cover the overall scope and functions of Public Health including organizational aspects of the Public Health system. The course will provide the students with the basic concepts and tools for good Public Health practice.
Applicant should have a M.B.B.S. Degree recognized by Medical Council of India, should be working in Public Health, preferably in State or Central Government Department or in Medical institutions sponsored on deputation for two years on full-time basis, should have 3 years experience in Public Health related activities, should below 40 years as on 1.7.2009 which may be relaxed up to 5 years for deserving candidates.
