Central Varsities Common Entrance Test on June 18, 19, 2011
The Central Universities of Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kashmir, Kerala, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu have announced the CUCET, the ‘Central Universities Common Entrance Test’, for admission to about 73 Under Graduate, Integrated, Post- Graduate & Research Programmes in these Universities for 2011-12.
This test enables a candidate, to seek admission to various Programmes in different Universities through a single window facility.
The Central Universities admitting students based on this Common Entrance Test include

Admission to all the programmes in the participating Central Universities will be based on Common Entrance Test to be conducted on June 18th and 19th, 2011 as per the time schedule given at http://www.cucet.ac.in/tentativeschedule.html at Ajmer, Allahabad, Bangalore, Belgaum, Bhagalpur, Bhubaneswar, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Chennai , Coimbatore , Darbhanga, Dhanbad, Dharwad, Gulbarga, Dibrugarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jamshedpur, Jodhpur, Kasargod, Srinagar, Kochi, Kolkata, Kota, Kozhikode, Madurai, Mumbai, Mysore, New Delhi, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvanathapuram, Thiruvarur, and Udaipur. If the number of candidates opting for a particular centre is not viable, they will be allocated to the nearest centre. The decision of the convener will be final in this regard.
An eligible student can choose up to 3 courses and 3 Universities of his/her choice subject to satisfying the eligibility conditions for the Programmes applying. However, it is not mandatory to choose 3 courses. An applicant may choose even a single Programme based on the interest of the applicant.
Applications for Common Entrance Test can be submitted Offline or Online.
Offline Applications can be obtained till 2nd June, 2011.
Those wishing to apply offline may get the form from any one of the seven Central Universities in person on payment of Rs.100/- (Rupees 50/- for SC/ST).
It can be obtained by post from any one of the seven Central University, by sending a self addressed stamped envelope of size 28 cms x 12 cms, along with a DD for Rs.100/- or Rs.50/- as applicable, taken in favour of ‘Co-ordinator, CUCET 2011’, drawn on any Nationalised Bank and payable at Thiruvarur.
The fee for CET depends on the number of Programmes applied. Fee has to be paid by way of DD for the applicable amount.
The fee for applying offline for 1, 2 and 3 Programmes is Rs.100/-, Rs.200/- and Rs.300/- respectively for General/OBC applicants. The fee will be Rs.50/-, Rs.100/- and Rs.150/- respectively for SC/ST applicants. The fee has to be paid by way of a Demand Draft drawn on any Nationalised Bank in favour of ‘Co-ordinator CUCET 2011’, payable at Thiruvarur.
Filled in application has to be submitted with the Demand Draft towards the fee applicable to reach ‘Blueshift Information Systems Private Limited, 6th Floor, East Wing, Sreyas Towers, 23&24, Chamiers Road, Chennai-600 018’, latest by 4th June, 2011.
Online application can be submitted at www.cucet.ac.in till June 2, 2011 as per the instructions given there.
Online Application fee for General/OBC applicants is Rs.150/-, Rs.250/- and Rs.350/- respectively for 1, 2 and 3 Programmes. The fee for SC/ST applicants will be Rs.100/-, Rs.125/- and Rs.175/- respectively for 1, 2 and 3 Programmes.
After filling the online form, the applicant has to take a printout of the online application and the same has to be sent along with the DD for the fee paid to reach ‘Blueshift Information Systems Private Limited, 6th Floor, East Wing, Sreyas Towers, 23&24, Chamiers Road, Chennai -600 018’, to reach there latest by 4th June, 2011.
Certain courses have additional screening process such as Interviews/Group Discussions etc wherever applicable. Applicants are required to check the details of such requirements from the website of the concerned University.
Those awaiting results of the Qualifying examination may also apply. However, their admission will be subject to their passing the qualifying examination and securing the minimum eligible marks, the proof of which has to be submitted before the last date fixed for the completion of the admission formalities by the Universities concerned.
Admission to the Central Universities is governed by the Central Educational Institutions (reservation in admission) Act.
Applicants belonging to SC/ST communities will get relaxation of 5% in the minimum requirement prescribed by the concerned University.
The entrance test for Post Graduate Programmes will have two parts, A and B. Part A will have 35 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and are intended to test the applicants’ General Awareness, Reasoning, Basic Language Skills (English) and Analytical Skills.
Part B will be subject specific wherever needed and desired by the respective Universities or the subjects will be grouped together to form one paper. There will be 65 questions. In Science and Technology subjects all the questions will be multiple choice questions and will be based on general BSc/BTech level subjects in various Indian Universities and Technology institutions.
In Arts and Humanities, in subjects such as Economics, all the questions will be MCQs and will be based on syllabus of General Economics in Universities. In subjects such as Development Studies, Psychology also, the questions will be MCQ type, intended to test the ability of the students to reflect and comment on topics pertaining to the course they wish to pursue.
All Integrated courses will have one paper incorporating A and B. The B part will deal with Science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Instructions will be given in the question paper with regard to the combination of sections that the student will have to answer based on his/her preference. Since Applied Integrated MSc programmes also have the same eligibility conditions, the paper will be common to both the basic subject such as Physics, Chemistry and Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry. For Arts, Humanities and Business Administration Programmes, there will be one common paper and the subjects will be allocated based on preference and performance in the test. MBA programmes will have CAT model test.
Languages such as English, Hindi and Classical Tamil will have one language specific paper divided into two parts A and B where A will be on General Awareness and Language skills and B will be language specific test. Comparative literature students will have to take the M A English Test.
For MPhil in Science subjects the test will have 100 MCQs. It will be based on the Post Graduate level competencies in the respective subjects.
Although the students who have qualified in UGC/CSIR NET or similar tests are exempted from admission test, they have to submit the application to Central University of Kerala before the last date.
For all Integrated and Undergraduate Programmes, subject related questions will be based on the 12th Standard (CBSE Board) syllabus. For Post Graduate Programmes, questions will be based on Under Graduate syllabus.
The Admit Card download window will be active during 13th June to 16th June, 2011.
Results of CUCET are expected on 5th July, 2011 and the candidates will get the facility to download the Score card.
Counselling sessions and Admissions will start on 12th July, 2011.
Admissions are handled at the level of each of these 7 Central Universities, for their respective programs.
The common criteria for being called for counselling by a University for Admission include (i) Applying for a particular program in that University as first choice (If left over seats are there, candidates with second and third choice may also be considered) (ii) Rank in CUCET for that Programme (iii) Meeting the eligibility criteria prescribed by the University.
