Correspondence Course
Jamia Millia Islamia has always cherished to fulfill the aims set
by its founders in accordance with India's composite culture and its unique
pluralism imparting education through Urdu language, at almost all levels, was
one of the ways to foster our national character and cultura1 harmony. Ever
since the foundation of the Jamia, Urdu continues to be the primary medium of
instruction. At present also besides the formal educational classes, Jamia's
Urdu Correspondence Course in Urdu has been teaching Urdu informally through
its distance education program in India and abroad to familiarize is being run.
It imparts knowledge of Urdu through both Hindi and English. The response of
learners from various parts of the country as well as abroad is over whelming.
The Urdu Correspondence Course was established in 1970. The
purpose of this course is to teach Urdu language through the medium of Hindi
and English.
ADMISSION
No specific entrance qualifications or experience are required for
admission to the course but applicants should have knowledge of Hindi or
English, the language of instruction. There is no limit on age for admission. ADMISSION ARE OPEN THROUGHOUT
THE YEAR.
INSTRUCTIONAL
MATERIAL
Printed teaching material prepared by the institution is used in
this course. The textbooks are supplied to the student free of charge by the
department.

ADMISSION
RULES
1.The admission form and syllabus can be had by sending a self
addressed 24 x 12 cm envelope with a postal stamp of Rs. 10/-.
2.Admission is open throughout the year.
3.Application for admission is accepted only when the proper form
is duly filled in alongwith a postal order or a bank draft of Rs. 100/- for
learning Urdu through Hindi or English medium. Those applying from outside
India should send a bank draft worth U.S. $ 20/- for SAARC countries and others
US $ 50/- for any medium in favour of JAMIA MILLIA ISLAMIA, NEW DELHI.
4.The student is required to affix a passport size copy of his/her
recent photograph on the admission form.
5.Those admitted to the course shall be treated as students of the
Urdu Correspondence Course.
6.The students shall get books free of charge.
7.The students are required to quote their admission number and
address legibly in every letter.
8.The course is divided into three stages. Each stage normally
takes three to four months to be completed. Thus, the duration of this course
is one year. But the student is free to finish later according to his/her
convenience, but not later than two years.
9. The name of a student may be removed from the Students Register
in case his/her progress is unsatisfactory. The renewal of admission will be
treated as fresh admission.
10. In case a student loses his/her book, he/she should send
postage stamp worth Rs. 30/- to cover the cost of registration. After receipt
of the postage stamps, the required book will be sent by registered post.
Duration : 1-2 years.
