Advertisement for admission to the Ph. D. Program in the
Department of Chemistry, December, 2013
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D.
Program of the Department of Chemistry, CU.
Candidates who have already passed the M. Sc.
Examination in Chemistry and are willing to pursue their research work, leading
subsequently to Ph. D. (Sc.) Degree of the University of Calcutta, should apply
in the format given below after paying Rs. 100/- in the University Cash Counter
(as application fee for Ph. D. admission) through a challan obtainable from the
Cash Counter at CU.
In this connection, a written MCQ Examination of 1½
hour duration will be held in the department on Friday, December 13, 2012 at
11:30 a.m. This will be based on B. Sc. (Hons.) and M. Sc. Syllabi of this
University, encompassing all the branches of Chemistry.
Successful candidates will be called for an
interview/ counseling on the same day at 2:00 p.m. in the department.The final
selection will be made on the basis of the overall performance of the
candidates. At present, approximately a maximum of 20 students will be taken
for the Ph. D. Program. The allocation of a supervisor for a selected student
shall be decided by the departmental committee, depending on the number of
students working under the supervision of each supervisor, the available
specialization among the faculty supervisors, the research interest of the
student as indicated during the interview by the student and, finally, in
consultation with the respective student and the faculty member.
*Reservation policy will be followed as per rules.
Candidates who already cleared the NET/SET/SLET/
GATE/Teacher Fellowship/equivalent examination, or passed the M. Phil. / M.
Tech. / equivalent examination, need to appear at the interview directly,
skipping the written test.
The last date of application to the HOD, Chemistry, CU, is
9th December, 2013.
