Four Year BS Admission Notice 2014
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, has invited
application for admission to the 4 year-eight semesters, Undergraduate
BSprogramme for 2014-15. Applicant should have completed II PUC/12thStandard in
2013. Those expecting to complete II PUC / 12thStandard in 2014 are also
eligible to apply.
Applicant should have studied Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics as main subjects during their II PUC / 12thStandard. Those who
have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science etc., in
addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply.
Applicant must have secured a first class or 60% or equivalent grade in the II
PUC / 12thStandard examination.SC/ST applicants need only a pass class in
qualifying examination.
There is no entrance examination for admission.
However, some entrance examinations and fellowships will be the basis of
admission. Selection will be through different streams. Students who are KVPY
fellows can apply under the KVPY stream. Applicant should be a KVPY-SA
[appeared in 2012 and selected for the Fellowship or Mentorship] or KVPY-SB
[appeared in 2013 and selected for the Fellowship] or KVPY-SX [appeared in 2013
and selected for the Fellowship] or KVPY Fellows selected through the Empowerment
Initiative for SC/ST candidates, to be considered in the KVPY stream.
For consideration under the IIT-JEE-Main stream,
applicant should be appearing in 2014 in IIT-JEE-Main and should secure a
minimum of 60% (General category), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH)marks in
IIT-JEE-Main. For being considered under theIIT-JEE-Advanced stream, applicant
should be appearing in 2014 in IIT-JEE-Advanced and should secure a minimum of
60% (General), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH) in IIT-JEE-Advanced.
Under the AIPMT stream, applicant should be
appearing in 2014 for AIPMTand should secure a minimum of 60% (GN), 54%
(OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH) at AIPMT. The selection will be based on the
performance in any one of the national examinations listed, of the candidates
who apply. Only candidates who apply to the BS programme will be considered for
possible selection.
A separate merit list of candidates who have
applied will be prepared for each of these national examinations and the seats
will be offered based on the performance in the examination and the number of
seats available. A candidate who has qualified in multiple examinations listed
above will be included in all the appropriate merit lists. Separate merit lists
will be prepared for candidates belonging to different reserved categories, as
per standard Government of India regulations.Reservation for
SC/ST/OBC/Physically-Handicapped (PH) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) candidates will
be as per Government of India regulations, and following the National List.
Application can be submitted only online at
www.iisc.ernet.in/ugtill 30thApril 2014.The application fee is Rs. 400/- for
General/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH categories.Application fee
can be paid online, through Net-banking or using Visa Card/ Master Card,
Debit/Credit Cards. It can also be paid offline at branches of SBI/Canara Bank
across the country. The bank service charge is extra and is to be borne by the
applicants.
Applicants will have to first register at the site
http://admissions.iisc.ernet.in/web/Login.aspx by giving the required
information asked. After registering applicant will have to login using the
details asked and complete the application. Details related to the stream(s) in
which the application is to be considered will have to be provided. In KVPY
stream, if the applicant has received the Fellowship or Mentorship in KVPY-SA
2012, applicant should give the Roll Number and rank.
The Roll Number is the letter ‘A’ followed by a 7
digit number. This is the number that the applicant was provided with when
he/she applied for the fellowship. If applicant has appeared in KVPY-SB 2013/SX
2013, he/she should give the Roll Number and leave the rank column blank. The
rank must be updated immediately after the declaration of the results. The Roll
number is the letter ‘B’ followed by a 7 digit number for KVPY-SB and the
letter ‘X’ followed by a seven digit number for KVPY-SX. This is the number
that applicant was provided with when he/she applied for the Fellowship.
In the case of IIT-JEE (Main and Advanced),
applicant has to enter the registration number that is mentioned in the admit
card for the examination. In the case of AIPMT, the number one has to enter is
the roll number given in the admit card for the examination. The above number will
be available to the applicant only when he/she receives the admit card for the
respective examination. Applicant may fill the application form after knowing
the number. The deadline for submitting the application is April 30, 2014.
Alternatively, one can fill the application form now without filling the
details of the qualifying examinations. That can be filled later, after
receiving the admit card(s).
The annual Tuition Fee is Rs.10000/-. The details
of the other fees to be paid are given in the Information Brochure given in the
website. Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY,
IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and AIPMT, students will be able to avail
themselves of the standard fellowships offered by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE.
Those who join the Institute are eligible for
reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the
place of residence to the Institute, for attending the counselling (both ways)
and for joining the Institute (one way).A duly filled-in TA form with journey
tickets should be submitted to the Admissions Unit within 15 days of joining
the Institute. No claim will be accepted beyond this period.
3% seats are reserved for physically handicapped
candidates, as specified by the Government of India. Candidates, who have at
least 40% permanent physical impairment in relation to a body part/ system/
extremity/extremities/whole body, etc., will be given the benefit.The
candidates in this category are required to be certified by a Medical Board at
IISc.
The graduates of this programme will obtain a
Bachelor of Science degree in a Specialization. The students admitted to a
stream are encouraged to take courses from other streams, thus maintaining the
strong interdisciplinary flavour of this undergraduate programme. All students
take core courses in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and
Humanities in the first one and half years (I, II and III semesters). While
specialization is introduced rigorously in the following year and a half (IV, V
and VI semesters), the students are free (and are also encouraged) to choose
electives from streams other than their own specialization during this time.
The course culminates with a research oriented project in the fourth year (VII
and VIII semesters) supervised by a faculty.
The Programme offers a sound exposure of all
students to the fundamentals of classical, scientific, mathematical and
engineering principles takes place in the first 3 semesters (1 ½ years).
Teaching of these core courses, include strong components of laboratory
demonstration and hands-on experimental work.After the first 3 semesters the
students opt for a specialisation. A specialisation is designed to cater to the
vocational interest of a student. The specialisations offered are Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Materials and Environment.The students are
free to choose their specialisation and combination of courses. The students do
a research project in the final two semesters of the course. The project can be
chosen from any one of the offered specialisations.
