Notice M.Phil in Economics for the Session 2015-2017
Applications
are invited for admission to the two-year M.Phil. Programme in Economics for
the Session 2015-2017. The number of seats is 15 (inclusive of reservation for
all categories).
Eligibility:
Any
candidate who has passed the M.A./M.Sc. Examination in Economics of this University
with 55% marks in aggregate (SC/ST with 50% marks) or with 60% marks in
aggregate of any other recognized University is eligible to apply to the M.Phil
Programme. Students, likely to complete M.A./M.Sc. Part-II Examination in
Economics by June 30, 2015, are also eligible to apply Their admission will be
provisional subject to satisfying minimum eligibility criterion by August 31,
2015. Selection will be on the basis of an entrance test followed by an
interview. Candidates who have qualified in NET, SET or equivalent national
level examination are exempt from the entrance test, but not from the
interview. The candidates, found eligible through entrance test and those
exempted from entrance test, would be invited to submit a Statement clarifying
their Expression of Interest on which a final interview will be conducted. The
list of finally selected candidates (on the basis of final interview only)
would be posted in the University web-site and Departmental Notice Board.

Structure of
the Entrance Test:
The M. Phil. Entrance test is of 100 marks. The
qualifying mark is 50%. Duration of the test is two hours. There will be 50 multiple choice questions (MCQ),
each of 2 marks. For each MCQ there·
will be negative marking (1 mark). MCQs
will be on Microeconomic Theory (30 marks), Macroeconomic Theory (30· marks), Statistics,
Econometrics (20 marks) and Mathematical Economics (20 marks).
Form: The prescribed Application Form for Admission
to M.Phil Courses 2015-16 and the Information Brochure can be downloaded from
the official website of Calcutta University www.caluniv.ac.in.

in all respects along with proof of payment of Rs.500/- for General &
Rs.250/- for SC/ST/PWD category by CU challan or SBI challan will be received
by the office of the Secretary, University College of Arts and Commerce (UCAC)
College Street Campus, Asutosh Building, Ground Floor, Room No. 3G by the
concerned Faculty Office between 11.00a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on all working days,
from June 8,
2015 (Monday) to June 22, 2015.
Mode of Payment:
Application fees may be deposited in the C.U. Cash
Counter or with the S.B.I.,C.U. Br., College Street to Savings A/c
No.10444444211 (With SBI,CU Br.) under head “University of Calcutta”. Counter
part of the Slip in original after cash deposition is to be attached with the
application form stating (a) Name of the applicant (b) Mobile No. (c) Course
(subject) applied for.
Reservation:
For S.C.,S.T., OBC-A, OBC-B and Differently abled
candidate will be made as per University/Govt. rules For SC/ST : 22% and 6%
respectively of the total seats of the concerned subject. N.B.- SC/ST
candidates should submit SC/ST certificate issued as per the West Bengal SC/ST
(identification) Act 1994. For Person with Disability : Reservation of 3% seats
for PWD within each respective category (SC/ST, OBC-A, OBC-B/unreserved of the
concerned subject. N.B. – Persons with disability candidates having degree of
40% and above should submit a certificate issued by the relevant Govt.
Hospital. For OBC-A/OBC-B : Implementation of reservation shall take effect
from the Academic Session 2015- 16 as per W.B.Govt. Rules in a Phase-wise
manner as given in relevant G.O,.s and decided by the C.U. Syndicate.
Course Fees: Rupees Four Thousand in cash are to be
paid by the selected candidates at the time of admission.
