CERTIFICATE COURSE IN RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (REBT)
Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Thearpy are the most widely used psychotherapies today and a choice of most mental health professionals due to their efficacy, short course and long term results in a wide range of emotional and psychiatric problems. This course is aimed at offering high quality intensive training in the theory and practice of CBT and REBT to mental health professionals and other professionals in the helping profession. The supervised therapy of the peers during the training ensures first hand experience of REBT as opposed to role plays. Daily sessions ensure optimum training and application of the concepts learned. The course teaches the model of REBT and empowers the counsellor with skills and techniques used in the therapy.
There will be four hours of training every day.

The following topics will be discussed in the course:
Principles and practice of REBT
Core REBT concepts
Practice: Assessment and Intervention strategies in REBT
Step by step approach to the problem, its assessment and disputation.
Giving homework assignments to clients.
Overcoming resistance to therapy in clients.
Application of REBT in various clinical disorders.
Application of REBT to relationship issues
REBT and the myth of self esteem
Shame attacking exercises for Unconditional self acceptance (USA)
Using different intervention strategies and styles
Overcoming difficulties
Supervised therapy after every class.
The trainees will be given guidance about the recommended reading and further training in CBT and REBT.
Eligibility: This course is aimed at training highly motivated professionals from the helping profession like psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, teachers and lecturers. Though there is no necessary educational qualification as a criterion for entering the course, it is recommended that you have a post graduate degree in psychology or psychiatry. The medium of instruction is English, so a good understanding of English is necessary. The trainees must be prepared for hardwork and putting in effort into the training as the sessions can be demanding. They must have time to read the printed material and doing the homework assignments.
Trainer: Dr.Shishir Palsapure is a counselling psychologist at Care hospital, Nagpur and has been conducting certificate course in counselling there. He has recieved intensive training at the Albert Ellis Institute, New York, NY, USA and certified by the institute as Associate Fellow. He is a lecturer at the Hislop college, Nagpur and teaches MA (Psy) students. Dr. Shishir has recieved training at the prestigious Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He has trained over 200 psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors and other mental health professionals in basic counselling skills, CBT and REBT.

Does this course enable me to counsel patients and clients?
Ans: Yes, certainly. You will be able to use counselling techniques on yourself and others. Even if you are not a psychologist and are in a helping profession like medicine or teaching, you will be benefited as you will get a structure to your counselling.
Will I get a certificate for having done the training?
Ans. Yes, you will get a certificate signed by the trainer.
Is this a licence to practice counselling?
Ans: No, this course is meant for enhancing the skills of professionals in the helping profession like doctors, psychiatrists, counsellors and psychologists who already are legally allowed to counsel. But this course itself is not a licence to practice psychotherapy.
Will I get to counsel real clients? Will there be any practical training?
Ans: Certainly yes. There is a lot of emphasis on practical training in the course. Your peers will be your clients. They will not be playing roles so they will pose with real problems. This ensures you will be able to counsel real problems in a comfortable environment. Your counselling will be supervised by the trainer and you will get feedback. You will also get a chance to present your difficulties and get counselling done by your peers.
Is this course meant for your self help?
Ans: Though doing the course will help you solve your own problems, it is not primarily meant for solving your own problems. Professional counselling is recommended for severe emotional problems.
How can I get further training in REBT ?
