Application Forms are available at the C U SALES COUNTER, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor), College Street Campus, Kolkata-700073 on payment of Rs.200 in cash from 20 July 2009 to18 August 2009. (Time: 11am – 3pm). Application Forms can also be downloaded from the University website and from the website of the Publishers & Booksellers Guild.
A UNIQUE COURSE
Unique of its kind, the PGDBPS course is being run in collaboration with the Publishers & Booksellers Guild (Kolkata), which is one of the premier forums with the country’s leading and well-known publishers. The University-Guild partnership is a path-breaking step that helps widen scope of the pass- outs.
The course covers all aspects and techniques of book publishing and aims to make you just the person the industry is looking for. It ensures creative engagement as a competent editor, pre-production and production in-charge, an innovative expert in book marketing and promotion. The course also enables you to take the challenge of starting your own publishing venture.
We offer theoretical and practical inputs of the highest standard and there are such provisions as internship, handson training, seminars and workshops. Much of the course is devoted to the practical work. Tutors will guide you through a series of exercises allowing you to learn by doing and to learn from your mistakes.
Eligibility:
Graduation in any discipline (Honours / Pass/ General/ Vocational etc) from a recognized university.
A candidate appeared at the final examination for graduation is also eligible to apply. However, if selected, such a candidate has to submit the proof (pass certificate, mark sheet etc) of his/her graduation before admission to this course.
Age Limit
No upper age limit.
Intake
Twenty Five (25) in total. Five seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by publishing/printing organizations.
One seat for NRI/ Foreign candidates.
Reservation for SC/ST/PH candidates as per rules and University norms.
SELECTION
Strictly on merit. Candidates seeking admission to the course shall have to qualify in the written Admission Test by securing at least 25% of the marks and final selection will be made on the basis of cumulative score of the written test and interview as detailed below
WRITTEN TEST (Total Marks - 100; Duration – 90 minutes)
Part A: Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (Marks: 70)
(General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Skill, Book Publishing & Production etc)
Part B: Descriptive Type Questions (Marks 30)
INTERVIEW (Marks: 50)
In both Part A and Part B of the written test, questions are set in English. For Part B, the candidates can answer either in English or in Bengali. The list of candidates eligible for Interview is notified on the basis of results of the written test.
FEES
Course Fee: Rs.10, 000 for non-sponsored candidates/ Rs.11, 000 for sponsored candidates/ Rs.25, 000 for NRI/Foreign candidates.
Library Fee and Examination Fee separate.

However, in such cases, please enclose with the application a crossed bank draft/ bankers cheque of Rs. 200/- drawn in favour of ‘PGDBP, CU’ payable at Kolkata.
Candidates sponsored by publishing/printing organizations, are required to collect a letter of recommendation issued for the purpose by the Publishers & Booksellers Guild and to submit the same in original along with the applications. For details, see the Application Forms.

DISTRIBUTION OF ADMIT CARDS: 19-20 August 2009
Candidates are to collect their Admit Cards for the Written Test/ Interview from the office of the Course in person on submission of the Acknowledgement issued. Candidates shall have to show their Admit Cards at the time of written test and interview.

In case suitable candidate(s) for the reserved categories is/are not found, vacancies will be filled-in from among the general candidates duly selected.
(2) In case suitable sponsored candidate(s) is/are not found, the vacant seats will be filled from among other candidates duly selected.
(3) Applicants are to collect their Admit Cards for the Written Test/ Interview from the office of the Course in person on submission of the Acknowledgement issued.
