Diploma in Guidance and Counselling
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), in collaboration with Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada, is offering an International Diploma Course in Guidance and Counselling.
The course of one year duration with a unique blend of distance/online and face-to-face modes is open to candidates from India, other SAARC and Afro-Asian countries. Candidates from different regions of India will be admitted on regional basis at DEPFE, NIE, New Delhi and Regional Institutes of Education at Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Shillong.
The Target group includes In-service teachers / teacher educators / untrained guidance personnel/educational administrators. In-service teacher applicants must be Graduates with teaching Degree (at any level). Those 'presently not working' should have Graduation with teaching Degree and at least two years of teaching or related experience. Those with Post graduation in Psychology/ Education/ Social work/Child Development/Special Education/Human resource development are also eligible. Preference will be given to those with at least one year of teaching or related experience. Candidates from outside India who are not Graduates but have teaching Degree are required to have three years of work experience in the relevant area. Minimum percentage of marks for all target groups is 50 with 5% relaxation for SC/ST. There will be a maximum of 50 seats per study centre of which 30% seats are for candidates from outside India. Reservation will be as per Government of India norms.
The One year Programme extending from 4.1.2010 to 3.1.2011 covers Guided Self-Learning (Distance/ Online) of 6 months duration, Intensive Practicum (Face-to-Face) for 3 Months and Internship of 3-months (in Home Town). In-service candidates, before they take admission, must ensure that they will attend the full-time three months' contact programme with due permission from their employers. Medium of instruction will be English. Applicant should have good command over written and spoken English due to international participation.
Screening of candidates will be done by a committee following a selection criterion. Short-listed candidates will be called at the study centre in their region for selection test which includes essay writing and interview. Course fee will be Rs. 3000/- for Government deputed Indian Candidates. One time TA to attend the face-to-face contact programme for non-local Government deputed will admissible as per Council's norms. For private candidates it will be Rs. 10,000/-. For Candidates from outside India it is $ 500

The Programme aims at equipping Teachers and other school personnel with helping skills to promote students' personal, social, educational, career development and adjustment throughout the school years with professional orientation and training in the light of increasing complexities and stresses of modern day living, which has lead to lack of interest in studies, low achievement, truancy, aggression, behavioural problems, suicide, drug abuse and the like call for provision of guidance and counselling for children and youth in schools.
