PhD Admissions 2011-2012
Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) has invited applications from Indian citizens for PhD programs in various disciplines during first semester of academic year 2011-2012.
Eligibility criteria and areas of research for each department are given below:
A. SCIENCES:
(I) Chemistry:
Eligibility Criteria: M.Sc. in Chemistry with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET qualified candidates are eligible to apply
Areas of Research: Organic and Organometallics, Catalysis, Chemical Kinetics and Reaction Dynamics, Electronic Structure Calculations, Nanomaterials, Organic polymer synthesis, Organic synthesis, Supramolecular Chemistry.
(II)Physics:
Eligibility Criteria: M.Sc. in Physics with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or having passed CSIR/UGC NET.
Desirable Criteria: (1) Exposure to numerical programming and (2) exposure to relevant research
Areas of Research: (1) Particle/Nulcear Physics, (2) Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, (3) Nanotechnology and Condensed Matter Physics
(III)Mathematics:
Eligibility Criteria: M.Sc. in Mathematics or equivalent qualification with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC NET qualified candidates are eligible to apply
Areas of Research: Fluid Dynamics, Mathematical Modeling and Differential Equations
B. ENGINEERING:
(I) Computer Science and Engineering:
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having B.Tech/B.E. in computer science and engineering or equivalent qualification with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or candidates with M.Tech./M.E./M.S. or equivalent qualification in computer science and engineering or equivalent degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) are eligible to apply.
Areas of Research: The department is looking for excellent candidates willing to engage in multi-disciplinary research in systems and theory.
(II) Mechanical Engineering:
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical engineering with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or candidates with M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Mechanical engineering degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) are eligible to apply.
Areas of Research: Manufacturing Processes, Robot Motion Planning, Modular Design of Manipulators, Surface Engineering, Thermo-fluid Engineering, Mechanical Design and Analysis, Computational and Experimental Study on Nano Materials, Nano Composites and Nano Structures. Smart Materials and Structures, Energy Harvesting. Fault diagnostics and Condition-Monitoring, Metal Forming, Deformation Analysis.
(III) Electrical Engineering:
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having B.Tech/B.E. in Electrical engineering or equivalent qualification with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) with valid GATE score or candidates with M.Tech./M.E./M.S. in Electrical engineering or equivalent degree with 60% marks (or 6.5 grade point out of 10) are eligible to apply.
Areas of Research: (1) Optical Communication, Optical Fiber Components; (2) Renewable Energy Systems, Power Network and Optimal Power Flows, Wind Energy Resource Assessment; and (3) Signal Processing, Medical Image Processing
C. HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:
Eligibility Criteria: 55% (or 6 grade point out of 10) in M.A. in Linguistics/ English with UGC/NET qualified candidates are eligible to apply.
Areas of Research: (1) Linguistics: Phonology, Optimality Theory, Morphology; (2) Literature: Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies, Modern Fiction.
