Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology SCTIMST, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram-695012, Kerala
Ph.D Admissions 2011-2012
Applications are invited from highly motivated students for admission to the Ph.D. programme beginning in August 2011 at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in the following areas of specializations:
• Molecular Genetics in Epilepsy/ Neurology
• Molecular Neurobiology
• Cardiac stem cell biology, metabolic modulation in cardiac hypertrophy
• Genetics, motor physiology including transcranial magnetic stimulation, electrical stimulation, drug delivery systems, technology development for diagnosis and evaluation of movement disorders
• Experimental Pathology, Mammalian derived extracellular matrix for tissue engineering applications
• Cell - Material interaction, Biocompatibility, stem cells and tissue engineering
• Pediatric and preventive cardiology and cardiovascular epidemiology
• Processing and testing of polymers for biomedical application, Mechanical and dynamic testing of polymeric materials, Polymer-ceramic/bioglass composites, Sustained drug delivery systems, Radiopaque polymers for medical application, Surface coating on devices, Hydrogel systems, Curcumin solubilization for medical applications
• Clinical epileptology, Electrophysiology, Pharmacogenomics, Molecular genetics of epilepsy, Neuropsychology, Language dysfunction
• Unlike cardiac myocytes, cardiac fibroblasts retain their replicative capacity throughout adult life and are relatively resistant to several pro-apoptotic stimuli that prevail in pathophysiologic states of the myocardium, which underlie their critical role in myocardial remodeling following injury. This laboratory focuses on the regulation of the cardiac fibroblast cell cycle and the relative resistance of these cells to apoptosis under hypoxia, a major constituent of myocardial ischemia and infarction
• Functional neuroimaging, magnetic resonance imaging, Medical image processing
• Polymer composites, synthesis of polymers for medical and dental applications, Inorganic hybrid materials (Ormocers), Nano composites, smart composites and dental tissue remineralization
• Signalling events in Gliomas, Pathobiology of neurodegenerative disorders, Regulation of autophagy is diseases
• Biomedical materials and polymers for medical applications, Implant and medical devices, Tissue engineering
Eligibility:
Post-graduate degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer chemistry/ polymer sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Physiology, Zoology or any other branch of life sciences (excluding plant sciences). M.Tech in Polymer Engineering/Technology, M.Tech in Materials Science or Post graduate degree in Public Health, Cardiovascular Sciences, Neurosciences and Imaging & Interventional Radiology, Dentistry, Nursing, Veterinary Sciences, Social Sciences and Statistics.
Minimum marks required to apply:
