Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)2012


The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the all India entrance examination conducted by 14 National Law Schools/Universities for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post Graduate Degree Programmes (LL.B & LL.M) for 2012, being conducted by National Law University, Jodhpur (NLU, Jodhpur), will be held from 3 p.m to 5 p.m on 13th May 2012 (Sunday). List of Centers has not been notified so far. It will be available in due course at http://www.clat.ac.in/clatcal.aspx

Eligibility UG: For the Under-Graduate Programmes, applicant should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Board with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and PWD). Candidates who have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test subject to passing the qualifying examination at the time of his/her admission and should be able to submit its proof. Age of candidate should not be more than 20 years in case of General/OBC candidates (22 years in case of SC/ST and persons with Disability) as on 1st July, 2012.

The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination at the time of his/her admission and be able to submit its proof.

Eligibility PG: For Post-Graduate Programmes, applicant should have obtained a LL.B/B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of SC/ST /OBC and persons with Disability). Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying degree examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test. Reservation will be subject to state reservation at the University concerned.

Examination Pattern: CLAT Paper for Under-Graduate Programme will be of two hours duration and will have 200 multiple-choice questions of one mark each. Questions will be from English including Comprehension (40 Marks), General Knowledge/Current Affairs (50 Marks), Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability) (20 Marks) and Legal Aptitude (50 Marks) and Logical Reasoning (40 Marks).

The Paper for Post-Graduate Programme will also be of two hours duration and the maximum mark is 200. There will be 100 Multiple-choice Questions of 1 mark each, from Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory. There will be 10 short-answer questions each of 10 marks and carrying a maximum of 100 marks.

There is no negative marking for wrong answers. In event of tie between two or more candidates, tie will be broken by the following procedure and order considering the higher marks in the section of short-answer questions in CLAT-2012, Higher age and Computerized draw of lots in that order. Application Form: CLAT 2012 Brochure will be available from 2nd January 2012. Printed Application Forms along with the CLAT-2012 Information Brochure will be available at designated branches of the State Bank of India (list of branches will be available at www.clat.ac.in , in due course), or in any of Law Schools mentioned above against payment of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST/PWD on submission of proof) inclusive of test fee and bank charges.

Application form and Brochure can also be obtained from ‘The Convener, CLAT-2012, National Law University, Jodhpur, NH-65, Nagour Road, Mandore, Jodhpur, Rajasthan-342 304, by sending a request for the same with a Demand Draft of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- in case of SC/ST/PWD) drawn in favour of the ‘National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C’, and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan). Candidates can also apply online at www.clat.ac.in as per the instructions to be given there.

Applications can also be downloaded from www.clat.ac.in. Duly filled OMR application form along with necessary documents as mentioned in the OMR application form should reach the Convener, Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-2012, National Law University, Jodhpur NH-65, Nagour Road, Mandore, Jodhpur, Rajasthan-342 304, either in person or through Registered Post, on or before 31st March 2012.

Candidates applying on downloaded application forms must enclose Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque/ Pay order of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in favour of ‘National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C’, and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

Candidates applying online should have a Demand Draft of Rs.3000/- (Rs.2500/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates) taken in favour of ‘National Law University, Jodhpur CLAT A/C’ and payable at Jodhpur (Rajasthan), ready before starting the procedure.
