NBHM scholarships 2012 (Ph.D in Mathematics)
The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Mumbai has invited applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing research for a Ph.D degree in Mathematics.
Applicants must be motivated BA/B.Sc/B.Tech/BE/MA/M.Sc degree holders or final year students of these degree courses. They must have a good academic record (1st class or equivalent grade in all years from +2 level to the present. B.Sc(Honours) students with second class may also apply.
Successful candidates will be eligible to recieve a scholarship amount of Rs.16,000/- per month for the first and second year and Rs.18,000/- per month for subsequent years, a contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- per year and house rent allowance as per central government norms where ever applicable.The scholarships are normally for a total period of four years, sanctioned for one year at a time and renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress.
A written test will be held based on questions in topics normally covered in Master's degree programmes in Mathematics. The written test will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the following centres:
Zone 1: Chandigarh, New Delhi
Zone 2: Allahabad, Indore, Jabalpur
Zone 3: Goa, Mumbai, Pune, Vallabh Vidyanagar
Zone 4: Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Kolkata, Ranchi, Shillong
Zone 5: Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad.
Applications should be made in the prescribed format on plain paper and must be sent in duplicate along with a recent passport size photograph attached to each copy and a self-addressed envelop, affixed with a Rs.5/- postage stamp, to the respective zonal coordinators to reach on or before Friday, December 16, 2011.
The envelope containing the applications should be superscribed, "NBHM Ph.D Scholarship".
