UPSC IPS Limited Competitive Examination 2012
The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Limited Competitive Examination from 20th of May, 2012 for the purpose of filling vacancies in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 3rd March, 2012.
(A) CENTRES OF EXAMINATION :
The Examination will be held at the following Centres:
AHMEDABAD, BANGALORE, CHENNAI, DELHI, GUWAHATI, KOLKATA AND NAGPUR.
(B) PLAN OF EXAMINATION :
The Indian Police Service Limited Competitive Examination will consist of two successive stages:
(i) Written Examination
(ii) Interview for Personality Test
ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS :
(A) The candidates, who fulfill the following eligibility conditions would be eligible for this Examination:
(a) must be a citizen of India or he/she must belong to such category of persons as may be, from time to time, be notified in this behalf by the Central Government.
(b) have completed 05 years of continuous and actual service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in States under State Police Service or Assistant Commandants in Central Para Military Forces (Central Reserve Police Service, Border Security Force, Indo Tibet Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal) or Officers of the Rank of Captain or Major or equivalent in the Armed Forces.
(c) should have an unblemished service record.
(B) A candidate must not have attained the age of 35 years on 1st August, 2012 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1977. However, the upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable upto a maximum of 1 year for Other Backward Classes category candidates and 2 years for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognized by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate.

Online applications can be filled upto 1st April, 2012 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled. Detailed instructions for filling up Online applications are available on the website. Candidates should ensure that all columns of the Online Application Form are filled in correctly.
The printed copy of the Online Application Form with necessary certification done by the appropriate authority must reach the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi – 110069 on or before 19th April, 2012.
The envelope containing the application should be superscribed "Application for Indian Police Service Limited Competitive Examination, 2012". Application can also be delivered at Union Public Service Commission counter by hand.
