                                            IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION

Applications are invited from eligible candidates willing to pursue Phd Research Work in the Department of Islamic History and Culture, University of Calcutta. The candidates are requested to download the application forms from the university website and submit the duly filled in application forms on payment of Rs 100/- only through Challan to the department office in Alipore Campus.

 Last date of submission of form is 15 January 2015 in the office of the department of Islamic history and Culture by 3 pm.

 List of candidates eligible for the RET (Research Eligibility Test) will be published on the departmental notice board on the 22 January 2015.

 The syllabus of RET is as follows a). Early Islam, ( from Pre-prophet age to 680AD), b). Socio-Cultureeconomic History of Turko-Afghan period (1290-1525AD), c). History of Mughal India (1525-1707),

d). Indian History (1885-1947) and e). Research Methodology

 The Ph.D. Entrance Test (RET) will be held on the 29 January 2015 from 12 noon to 2 pm in the Department, Alipore Campus.

 The entrance test will be of 75 marks written and 25 marks Viva Voce. The candidate has to write 5 short essays of 15 marks each. Questions will be set on the basis of MA syllabus of Calcutta University. The qualifying mark for the test will be 37.5 marks i.e. 50%, candidates appearing for written test will have to attain the qualifying marks to appear for the Viva.

 The students who have cleared NET/SET/SLET or have passed equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil or equivalent examination shall not be required to appear at the Ph.D. entrance test as per Ph.D new regulations 2009. They will appear for the viva.

 List of qualified eligible candidates for Viva will be walled up on 10 February 2015

 The Viva will be held on 24 February 2015 at 1pm.

 List of candidates selected for the Ph.D. Programme will be published on 3 March 2015

 Last date for Admission of eligible candidates to the Ph.D program will be 24 March 2015 before 1pm.

 PhD course work for the admitted candidates shall begin 16 April 2015

 The number of vacant seats for Ph.D. is ten (10)

 Reservation policy will be followed as per Govt. rule
