Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram-695 581, under the Sports Authority of India and affiliated to the University of Kerala, has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor of Physical Education (3 years), Master of Physical Education (2 years), Master of Philosophy (Physical Education) (1 Year) and the Post Graduate Diploma in Health & Fitness Management (1 Year) Programmes for 2011. (Post Graduate Diploma in Health & Fitness Management course will be conducted if at least ten candidates qualify in the admission test).
Eligibility:
Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) Course: Applicant should have completed the age of 17 years on 1.7.2011 and should have passed the +2 or HSC examination or an examination accepted by the Academic Council as equivalent there to OR should have passed S.S.L.C or equivalent examination with a Certificate in Physical Education of at least two years' duration from a recognized institution of Physical Education. The upper age limit is 21 years as on 1.7.2011 which may be relaxed to 23 years case of those who have participated in competitions conducted by AIU, National Sports Federations, School Games Federation of India and International bodies in games and sports. SC/ST applicants will be given age relaxation as per University rules.
Master of Physical Education (MPE) Course: Applicant should have obtained (a) Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education with at least 50% aggregate marks from an Indian or Foreign University, recognized for the purpose by the University of Kerala OR (b) Bachelor's Degree with Degree (BPEd)/Diploma in Physical Education (DPEd) of at least one year duration with 50% aggregate marks, awarded by an Indian University or a Board duly appointed by the Education Department of the State/ Union territory OR Indian or foreign qualification(s) recognized as equivalent to those mentioned in (a) and (b) above by the University of Kerala, provided, further, that the candidate should be in the age limit of 20-25 years as on 1.7.2011.
Relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in aggregate will be given to outstanding sportspersons who have represented the country in Asian Games/Commonwealth Games/Olympic Games or those who have secured first, second or third place at Senior National/Junior National/National games or at All India Intervarsity Competitions in the sport disciplines recognized by the Indian Olympic Association/Association of Indian Universities in the preceding three academic years. SC/ST applicants will be given relaxation as per University rules.
Master of Philosophy (Physical Education) (M.Phil): Applicant should have obtained MPE/MPEd (2 years’ duration)/equivalent Degree in Physical Education from a recognized University and also recognized by the University of Kerala and must have scored a minimum of 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) in MPE/MPEd or equivalent examination. Applicant should be in the age limit of 20-25 years as on 1.7.2011.
Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Fitness Management (PGDHFM): Applicant should have obtained (a) A Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education of a University - Indian or foreign recognized for the purpose by the University of Kerala OR (b) A Bachelor's Degree with Degree (BPEd)/Diploma in Physical Education (DPEd) of at least one-year duration awarded by an Indian University or a Board duly appointed by the Education Department of the State/Centre OR (c) Indian or foreign qualification(s) recognized as equivalent to those mentioned at (a) and (b) above by the University of Kerala provided, further, that the upper age limit for admission to the course will be 30 years on 1.7.2011. Age may be relaxed by five years for in-service teachers if they otherwise qualify in the admission tests. SC/ST candidates will be given age relaxation as per the University rules.
Candidates who have appeared in any of the qualifying examinations, but whose results are awaited may also apply. However, they will have to produce pass certificate and statement of marks before taking the selection tests.
Selection Test: All eligible candidates whether or not they receive the interview call-card in time may report for selection test on the date and time given below:
(i) B.P.E 21.07.11 (Thursday); 8 a.m. The test will continue on 22.07.11 & 23.07.11
(ii) M.P.E 18.07.11 (Monday); 8 a.m. The test will continue on 19.07.11
(iii) M.Phil 26.07.11 (Tuesday); 8 a.m
(iv) Post Graduate Diploma in Health & Fitness Management: 25.07.11 (Monday); 8 a.m
Admission Test for Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) Course: Candidates shall be selected as per merit from the rank list, which will be prepared on the basis of the following three items of the selection criteria which shall be conducted in the same order as given.
A. Written Test: 50 marks- (i) Test in General Knowledge and English. Candidates who secure less than 40% marks will not be eligible for further testing.
B. Physical Fitness Test (AAHPER Youth Fitness Test of 6 Items)-AAPHER Youth Fitness Test comprising the following items will be used to assess physical fitness (i) Pull-ups (Boys)/ Flexed-arm Hang (Girls) (ii) Flexed-leg Sit-Ups for one minute (iii) Shuttle run (30 ft X 4) (iv) Standing Broad Jump (v) 50-Yard Dash (vi) 600-Yard Run. This is a qualifying test. Those who fail to secure 50% of the composite score of 60 points of the test battery shall not be eligible for further testing.
C. Game/Sport Skills Test/Achievement Rating: (50 marks)- Each candidate will be required to opt one game/sport of his/her choice for assessment of skills out of the games/sports included in the schedule of I.O.A or Association of Indian Universities, Sports Division. Any one out of the following games/ sports is to be chosen: (1)Basketball (2)Cricket (3) Football (4) Gymnastics (5) Hockey (6) Shuttle Badminton (7) Swimming (8) Track & Field (9) Volleyball (10) Kho Kho (11) Kabaddi (12) Wrestling (13) Tennis (14) Table Tennis (15) Softball (16) Handball (17) Boxing (18) Taekwondo. The college reserves the right to delete any game/sport from the list on administrative considerations. Candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks in this test.
The merit for admission shall be reckoned on the basis of total marks obtained by a candidate in tests A and C subject to a minimum of 50% of the combined total of 100 marks.
Admission Test for MPE Course: Candidates shall be selected as per merit from the rank list, which will be prepared on the basis of the following three items of the selection criteria which shall be conducted in the same order as given.
A. Written Test: 100 marks: A written test of 2 hours duration to assess General Knowledge (20 marks) and theoretical knowledge in the subjects studied at Undergraduate level (80 marks). The questions for 40 marks shall be objective type.
B. Game/Sport proficiency test: (30 marks): A test in the skills of one game/sport of candidate’s choice out of the game/sport included in the schedule of AIU (Sports Division). Any one out of the following games/ sports is to be chosen: (1)Basketball (2)Cricket (3) Football (4) Gymnastics (5) Hockey (6) Shuttle Badminton (7) Swimming (8) Track & Field (9) Volleyball (10) Kho Kho (11) Kabaddi (12) Wrestling (13) Tennis (14) Table Tennis (15) Softball (16) Handball (17) Boxing (18) Taekwondo. The college reserves the right to delete any game/sport from the list on administrative consideration.
C. Game/sport achievement: (20 marks): Achievement rating in a Game/Sport will be as per the rating scale enclosed as Appendix-II of the Prospectus.
Rank list of the candidates will be prepared on the basis of total marks (max 150) obtained in written test (100 marks) game/sport proficiency test (30 marks) and game/sport achievement (20 marks)
Admission Test for Master of Philosophy (Physical Education):
Written Test (A): A written test of 2 hours’ duration to assess general knowledge and theoretical knowledge from the subjects studied at post-graduate level (100 marks). Those who fail to secure 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates) in the written test will not be eligible for further testing. Only 50% of the marks secured in the written test shall be reckoned for preparing the merit list.
Marks from the Qualifying Degree: (B) (50 marks)- One-half of the percentage of marks secured in MPE/MPEd shall be reckoned for preparing the merit list.
Game/Sport achievement (C): (20 marks) Achievement rating in a Game/Sport as per the Rating Scale given as Appendix-II of the Prospectus.
Test in one Game/Sport - (D) : (20 marks)- A test in the skills of one game/sport of candidate’s choice out of the games/sports included in the schedule of AIU (Sports Division). The final merit list of the candidate shall be prepared on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the tests A, B, C, D and E out of a total of 150 marks.
Admission Test for PGDHFM:

The final merit list of the candidate shall be prepared on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the tests B and C out of a total of 150 marks. A candidate should obtain at least 50% of the total marks to be eligible for admission to the course.
All students have to reside in the college hostels. They are required to take their meals in the college mess, where both vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are provided. The college is co-educational and admits both men and women students from all over India and abroad. The seats for admission to various courses are as under:
