NOTIFICATION (2013) FOR +2 STUDENTS INTO
MARINE
ENGINEERING
In line with the global demand for adequately trained marine
engineering officers. the director General of Shipping (GDS), Govt. of India,
offers ‘Alternate Training Scheme (ATS)’ to become Marine Engineers. Chennai School
of Ship Management, the premier and only institution in India, under the
approval of DGS, Govt. of India has been conducting this three year residential
course over 14 years. applications are invited from eligible male/ female
candidates.
ELIGIBILITY:
To join CSSM, one must fulfill the following requirements, as
prescribed by the D.G.Shipping, Government of India.
Nationality: Indian
Sex: Male /
Female
Age: 17 to 25
years
Educational Qualifications
A pass in +2/Intermediate/PUC/HSC or any equivalent qualification
with 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Maths. 50% marks in English
either in 10th std. or +2 std. (AIEEE To be removed add ) JEEE Ranking cadets
will be preferred.
Diploma holders OR B.Sc., degree holders are also eligible and
they can apply only on the basis of their +2 background with 60% aggregate in
Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics and 50% marks in English either in 10th
std. or +2 std.
Physical Standards
Candidates wishing to join Marine Engineering must be Medically
and Physically Fit as per Merchant Shipping (Medical Examinations) Rules, 2000
and Medical Examination (Seafarers) Convention 73, under ILO Convention 147.
Following are the basic requirements:
Eye sight: (a)
6/6 permissible upto +2.5
(b) Colour vision should be normal.
(c) Field of vision should be normal.
Hearing: Normal
in both ears
Height: A
minimum of 157 cms
Weight: A
minimum of 50 kgs
Candidates should undergo the following medical tests in any
private or Government diagnostic centres (with a Government approved Doctors)
prior to applying for the course, and attach the photocopies of the medical
reports along with application. Original medical reports must be submitted at
the time of interview.
Blood Test: HB %, TC, DC, ESR, Blood platelet count, VDRL, Blood
grouping and RH typing
X - RAY : Chest PA
ECG in all leads
Urine analysis.
Eye test, Ear test
Note: In case of Lakshadweep, Amindivi, Andaman & Nicobar
Islands, Assam and other hill areas including those from Nagaland, Mizoram,
Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tirupura, Garhwar and Sikkim the
candidate’s height may be reduced by 5 cm and proportionately the minimum
weight should be 45kgs.

Step-1
Candidates seeking for admission may cut the below 'Request For
Application1, fill and send it along with a Demand Draft for Rs.
850/- (Eight hundred and fifty only) in favour of The Managing Director,
Chennai School of Ship Management, payable at Chennai on or before 04.05.2013 to:

Step-2:
After receiving your 'REQUEST FOR APPLICATION', The 'Formal application' will
be sent to your address and also to your email ID on or before 20.05.2013 along
with the date, time and venue of the interview and other important instructions
to attend the interview. (Those who do not receive the formal application on or before 20.05.2013 may
e-mail their contact details to: admission@cssmmarine.com ) In case you do not receive our mail in to
your' inbox' of email account, go to the 'spam' folder and check for our mail
and mark it as 'not spam' to receive our further mails.
Step-3: After the announcement of +2 board examination results, get
ready with medical certificates and other documents as insisted in the
'instructions for candidates' and attend the interview on the date, time and
venue allotted to you. After the personal interview, the performance of the
candidate will be scrutinised and thenames of selected candidates will be
announced on the same day and admissions will be made.
NOTE
Training
on board ship for 9 months including stipend as part of the curriculum. Marine
Engineers enjoy tax free income besides without any expenses on board ship.
After passing MEO class IV part A&B
examinations, conducted by DGS, Govt. of India, a fourth engineer, ears
a minimum of Ten Lakh rupees per year and a Chief engineer earns between 30 and
50 Lakhs rupees per year. CSSM has placed its students in national and international
vessels though campus interview. Presently CSSM cadets sail around the world at
various ranks.
