Admission to the Ph.D. Programme at various Centre of
Excellence in IIT Jodhpur
IIT Jodhpur is committed to develop state of the
art, research-led and multidisciplinary centres of excellence where scholars
from different disciplines will carry forward productive research on emerging
and important technological, scientific and social issues that characterize the
challenges faced by the contemporary world. Teaching and research activities of
the institute especially for Postgraduate and PhD Programmes are structured
around various Centres of Excellence (CoEs) of the Institute. Each of the CoE
will include participation in selected domains from renowned academic and
research institutions or industry from within India and abroad, so as to carry
out their research work in frontier areas.
IIT Jodhpur
has four centres of excellence, namely,
1) Centre of Excellence in Energy
2) Centre of Excellence in Information and
Communication Technology (ICT)
3) Centre of Excellence in Systems Science (SS)
4) Centre of Excellence in Biologically Inspired
Systems Science (BISS)
These CoE with their multidisciplinary ethos,
diversity and multicultural work environment aim at transforming students into
truly professional global citizens, competent to address the challenges being
faced by the Nation and the society at large. For further information about the

PhD program at IIT Jodhpur requires adequate
Mathematical knowledge. After joining the program, you are required take a few
Mathematics courses as part of your course work. Those got admitted, depending
on the requirement, may be provided with preparatory courses in Mathematics
before starting the actual course work.
Applications for admission to the Interdisciplinary
Ph.D. Programme in the above mentioned four Centres of Excellence (under
Regular and Full Time Category, Part-time/Sponsored category) are invited from
the eligible candidates who have completed the prescribed qualifying degree
(Refer Section: Minimum Educational Qualifications).
The candidates who are in the final semester of
qualifying degree also can apply for provisional admission. However, they must
submit the proof of successful completion of the qualifying degree with minimum
requirement of percentage of marks on or before August 10, 2013.
Students admitted to the Ph.D. programme will have
opportunity of interdisciplinary research within the scope of on thematic
area(s) identified by the respective CoE. Thus scholars have a unique option to
carry out research even beyond their basic disciplines/expertise in the
qualifying degree.
Preference will be given to applicants whose
academic background and credentials strongly exhibit the potentials to carry
out application based research in matching themes of the centres of excellence.
Prospective scholars, before applying, must go through the theme areas of
research of centres of excellence given at the end of this advertisement.

For July 2013 admission, the online link will
remain active till April 07, 2013. The summary sheet, final submitted
application, Demand Draft & Gate score card should reach us by April 11,
2013.
You are requested to send summary sheet & final
submitted application generated online duly signed along with the processing
fee of Rs.300/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.150/- for SC/ ST / Persons
with Disability (PD) candidates in the form of demand draft drawn from a
nationalized bank in favour of "Director, IIT Jodhpur " payable at
Jodhpur to the following address:
Candidates applying for TWO CoEs need to submit DD
of Rs. 600/- (OBC/GEN.), Rs. 300/- (SC/ST/PD). Candidates applying for THREE
CoEs need to submit DD of Rs. 900/- (OBC/GEN.), Rs. 450/-(SC/ST/PD). Candidates
applying for FOUR CoEs need to submit DD of Rs. 1200/- (OBC/GEN.), Rs.
600/-(SC/ST/PD).

Part-time/Sponsored Category Candidates: Three
years of relevant experience is needed for those with MTech degree and five
years of relevant experience is needed for those with BTech or MSc degree. This
category is only for those who are working in research labs or in similar
institutions. Please note that no financial assistance will be provided under
this category.

Financial Assistance in the form of assistantship/
scholarship/ fellowship for a specified duration will be provided to eligible
Ph.D. students (FULL TIME) as per the Institute norms or as per the funding
agency norms (UGC / CSIR / DBT/ NBHM/ etc) of the assistantship.

Reservation in admission is as per the GOI rules.
Uniqueness
of Ph.D. programme at IIT Jodhpur
Ph.D. students will carry out research only in the
theme areas/ research proposals of the admitted Centre of Excellence for their
doctoral dissertations irrespective of their basic disciplines/ specialization
in the qualifying degree.
An interdisciplinary doctoral committee shall be
formed for each Ph.D. student to advise and guide the student to carry out
his/her research work. The convener of the committee shall perform the role of
primary advisor of the programme.
Each Ph.D. student needs to successfully complete a
set of prescribed courses (as recommended by the doctoral committee) followed
by a comprehensive examination and state-of-the art seminar within first two or
three semesters from his/her date of registration of the programme.
