National
Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) was
conceptualized by Government of India on persistent demand of the food industry
to have an Apex Organisation as a One Stop Solution Provider for the various
problems of the sector. Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI),
Government of India, has set up this institute with an initial investment of
about Rs 500 crore (US $100 million). The Institute is spread over an area of
100 acre at a prime location in close proximity of North Delhi - Haryana border
on NH-1. The Institute intends to act as an international centre of excellence
in the area of Food Technology and Management. NIFTEM has been recognized as a
Deemed to be University under De-novo Category by Ministry of Human Resource
Development under University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
MANDATE

NIFTEM
has mandate to work as Sector Promotion Organisation/Business Promotion
Organisation of the food processing sector. The major objectives of NIFTEM are:

work as One Stop Solution Provider to all the problems of the food processing
sector.

NIFTEM
KNOWLEDGE CENTRE (NKC)
A
multi-level five storey State-of-the-Art Library, Niftem Knowledge Centre (NKC)
is set up with a carpet area of 5474 Sqmt. NKC is housed in aesthetically
designed boat shaped signature building of the NIFTEM campus. The aim of the
NKC is to cater to the needs of industry, all stakeholders, general public,
students, research scholars and the faculty members of the university. The
highlights of the facilities at NKC are given below:

INNOVATIVE
CONCEPTS IN EDUCATION AT NIFTEM INTERNATIONAL
COLLABORATIONS
Village
Adoption Programme (VAP):
• A
unique approach to pervade Food Processing Technologies and NIFTEM's message to
the least developed villages of India.
• Students
are divided into groups of 5 to 7 immediately after joining B. Tech/ M. Tech.
programmes at NIFTEM.
• Each
group adopts a village anywhere in India and nurses it during their entire
programme.
Aims
of VAP are:
• To
create a symbiotic learning environmentfor students
• Enlighten
the students to grass root problems of villages and of food chain
• Inculcating
the capabilities suiting to emerging job markets in food supply chain and to
develop entrepreneurship spirit
• Making
village community acquainted with advance knowledge on agro food production and
processing technology
International
Grain Processing Research Centre: The centre has the
mandate
of training, teaching, research and technology transfer in the area of: Primary
(shelling, milling, dehusking etc.) and Secondary (breakfast cereals,
multigrain products, whole grain products etc.) grain processing and to come up
with novel uses of grains through grain starch research, modification of
starch, extruded specialties, including fermentation technology applied to
cereals and development of value added products etc. The centre is going to organize
an international short term training programme on 'Extrusion Processing -
Technology, Applications and Business Development for the Indian Food and Feed
Market'on April 8-10,2013 with Kansas State University, USA& M/s Wenger,
USA.
International
Bakery Research and Training Centre: The International
Bakery
Centre shall facilitate experiential learning and product development for the
Baking Industry of India. It would conduct research on the problems of the
Baking Industry. The centre would also train the people and upgrade their
skills to achieve quality in the bakery units.
International
Centre of Excellence on Food Safety and Quality:
Being
a public funded institution and in its role of Single Solution Provider, NIFTEM
has come forward to take initiatives to establish a state of art Centre of
Excellence to work on Food Quality and Safety issues. Functional areas of the
centre are as under:

from their first year itself, every year ten meritorious students of B. Tech and
five of M. Tech programmes of NIFTEM are sent to foreign universities on

RESEARCH
DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Representatives
from esteemed academic/ research institutions, Government bodies and
professionals from micro, small, medium & large industries dealing in food
processing are the member of RDC in an advisory capacity for guiding on
research initiative at NIFTEM. Main aims and objectives of RDC are to:

down a road map research in NIFTEM for next 10 years

industry problems those need to be taken upas research topics

collaborators, approaches, and technologies that may improve research at NIFTEM

Admission Notice 2013-14
NIFTEM
invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to the following
academic programmes at its Kundli campus:
A. UNDER
GRADUATE PROGRAMME
Four
years regular B. Tech. degree in Food Technology and Management. Eligibility
(As per JEE- 2013)
Only
those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying
examination in 2011 or 2012: or those who are appearing in their Class 12th
Exam in 2013. Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination shall
be as under: Physics, Mathematics and one of the subjects from Chemistry,
Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology along with 50% marks in total
including all subjects. Besides a candidate must be appearing in JEE (Main) -
2013.
Selection
Process
The
selection of students will be made based on All India Rank of JEE-2013.
Counseling for admission will be done by NIFTEM admission cell.

Eligibility
Four
Years Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in relevant discipline with minimum
60% marks in aggregate. For additional programme wise requirements, please
refer admission brochure to be made available on the website shortly.
Selection
process
The
admission to all five M. Tech. programmes of NIFTEM will be based on the merit
formed through a valid GATE score.
After
the admission of eligible GATE qualified candidates, the remaining seats, if
any, will be filled by non GATE candidates on the basis of an Entrance Test and
Interview to be conducted by NIFTEM.

Master
Degree in a relevant discipline with at least 60% marks at Masters. Preference
will be given to NET/GATE qualified candidates.
Selection
Process: Through an All India Test to be organized by NIFTEM
at NIFTEM campus - Kundli, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Gauhati,
Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Srinagar. For details refer to
admission brochure 2013.
Fellowship:
The NET/GATE qualified candidates selected through the above
process shall be allowed to enroll for Ph.D. degree program at NIFTEM and it
shall provide a NIFTEM Ph.D. Fellowship (Rs 16000,18000 and 20000 per month in
the first, second and third year). Those without NET/GATE shall be provided
with NIFTEM Ph.D. scholarship (Rs 12000 per month).

Interested
candidates will apply online at www.niftem.ac.in,
with effect from 28.03.2013. All applicants are advised to go through
the admission brochure before filling the form. The Brochure will be made
available online on
27.03.2013. Candidates are required to take printout of application completion
of on line application filling process. Printed application should be sent by
registered/speed post/ in person to Head, Admission Cell, NIFTEM, Plot No.
97, Sector 56, HSIIDC Industrial Estate, Kundli -131 028, District: Sonepat,
Haryana, so as to reach at the destination on or before the due date of
respective programme as detailed in brochure. Print copy must carry a duly
pasted passport photo along with signature of the candidate and
parents/guardian at appropriate place. The application must also carry a
non-refundable application fee, if not paid online, in form of DD only of Rs
1000 (General/OBC) and Rs 500 (SC/ST). All DD should be in favour of 'NIFTEM'
payable at SBI, Branch -NIFTEM Campus Kundli (Branch Code 15479).
