NCCS PhD Admission 2014
GENERAL:-
NCCS, Pune, invites application from
eligible candidates for admissions to PhD programme of July-August 2014
session. The candidates should be bonafide Indian citizens, having consistently
good academic record with strong motivation to pursue research in modern
biology leading to a Ph.D. degree and with eligibility mentioned below should
apply for the same. Students with only post graduate degree and having valid
fellowship from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/ DST-Inspire /BINC are eligible to apply.
Students with post graduate degree who do not have a fellowship but have
qualified JGEEBILS examination conducted by NCBS/TIFR held on 8th December 2013
are also eligible to apply. Small number of fellowships will be provided by
NCCS to the selected students, who do not have fellowship from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/DST-INSPIRE/BINC
but have qualified JGEEBILS. These fellowships will follow CSIR guidelines.
Application to NCCS’ PhD programme does not automatically guarantee that a candidate
will be shortlisted for interview.
Shortlisted candidates fulfilling NCCS
criteria will have to appear for interview to be held at NCCS during 23rd to
25th June 2014. In case of a large number of eligible and shortlisted
applications, a MCQ based test will be conducted on 23rd June 2014 for further
shortlisting of candidates for interview on 24th-25th June 2014. Detailed eligibility
conditions are given hereunder.
ELIGIBILITY for NCCS PH.D PROGRAMME:-
I. Should have Masters (postgraduate)
degree in any branch of Science with interest in pursuing research in Modern
Biology and having at least 50% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and
with a valid fellowship from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/ DST-Inspire /BINC, etc.
II. Students with post graduate degree,
who do not have individual fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS exam
conducted by NCBS/TIFR on 8th December, 2013 will be eligible to apply and will
be shortlisted by NCCS criteria for MCQ test/interview.
III. Students who have a fellowship and
expect to be awarded M.Sc. Degree by end of July-2014 are also eligible to
apply. Their selection will be provisional and will be cancelled if the final
results are not produced by the end of November2014.
IV. All the eligible complete
applications received within the last date will be screened and shortlisted
candidates will be called for MCQ entrance test/interview as per the schedule
given below.
V. Candidates who have qualified only
for Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) and the “Project List of ICMR” are not
eligible.
VI. Other terms and conditions of the
fellowship will be directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. The upper
age limit for JRF shall be 28 years which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case
of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Women/PH and 3 years in case of OBC
candidates.
VII. Reservation will be as per
Government of India guidelines.
MODE OF APPLICATION:-
Interested candidates who satisfy the
above criteria may submit their typed application in the prescribed format
(download from NCCS web site). The completed hardcopy application form along
with the copies of M.Sc. marks statement and Fellowship certificate/admit card
should reach the Dean (Academics), National Centre for Cell Science, University
of Pune Campus, Ganeshkhind, Pune – 411 007 on or
before 26th May 2014. SC/ST/OBC candidates should also attach true copy
of Caste Certificate / Latest non-creamy layer certificate along with the
application and originals should be produced at the time of Interview
PERSONAL INTERVIEWS:-
Personal interview will be held at NCCS,
Pune of all shortlisted candidates as per NCCS
criteria. In case of a large number of
eligible applications, a MCQ based entrance test will be held on 23rd June 2014
at NCCS from 10.00 am onwards. Details of the interview process/schedule will
be published on the NCCS website along with the list of shortlisted candidates
on 2nd June, 2014. Second class train fare by shortest route will be paid to
only SC/ST Candidates as per rules. Candidates should make their own arrangements
for stay at Pune. Selected candidates will need to stay for two days more for
interaction and finalization of guide.
Candidates should bring all originals
with attested copy of following documents at the time of Interview.
1) Birth certificate/ proof of Date of
birth.
2) SC/ST/Physical Handicapped category
certificate from competent authorities.
3) Statement of marks of each
year/semester of graduation
4) Statement of marks of each
year/semester of (M.Sc.)
5) Fellowship Certificate
6) For OBC category, valid Non-creamy
layer certificate.
SCHEDULE FOR Ph.D. PROGRAMME ADMISSIONS
2014
1 Last date of receipt of
application by post at NCCS with all required documents. 26th May 2014
2. Publication of list of
shortlisted candidates called for MCQ entrance test / Interview. 02nd June 2014
3. DATE(S) & Time of
interview at NCCS. 23rd to 25th June 2014 9.00 AM onwards
4. Declaration of Result of
interview at NCCS 25th June 2014 evening
5. Interaction and
Finalization of guide at NCCS 26th - 27th June 2014
6. Expected date of joining at
NCCS 01st August 2014
Selected candidates who fail to produce M.Sc.
Final examination mark sheet/certificate with at least 50% marks on the date of
joining will be given a provisional admission.
The admission will be cancelled if the
final results are not produced by the end of November2014. No further request
for time extension will be entertained.
