Advertisement for Admission to Ph.D. Programme, 2014
Applications are invited for admission to Ph.D.
Programme in Philosophy, Department of Philosophy, University of Calcutta, 1,
Reformatory Street, Kolkata-27. Candidates should apply in the prescribed
proforma by paying Rs.100/- through a challan obtainable from College Street
Campus (Cash Counter). The eligible candidates will have to appear for a written
examination of two hours duration to be held in this Department on Wednesday, 14.08.2014,
(12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.) The list of successful candidates (written examination)
will be displayed in the Notice Board of the Department by 26.08.2014. They will
have to appear for an interview on Wednesday, 28.08.2014 and 29.08.2014 from 12
noon onwards. The final selection for joining this programme will be on the
basis of the interview.
The allocation of supervisors will be on the basis
of this interview.
Those candidates who have already passed UGC / CSIR
(JRF) Examinations / NET / SET/SLET /M.Phil (Philosophy only)/ Teacher
Fellowship or equivalent examinations need not appear at the written
examination and can directly apply to appear at the interview.
Important Information :
a) Entrance test (50 marks) will comprise the
following :
i) Questions on any topic (30 marks) (from a wide
choice of topics in the following areas
: Epistemology, Metaphysics, Analytic Philosophy, Ethics, Philosophy of Mind, Social & Political
Philosophy, Kant, Aristotle, Phenomenology & Existentialism, Philosophy of Language (Indian
and Western), Classical and Contemporary Western Philosophy, Classical and
Contemporary Indian Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion,
Nyaya-Vaisesika,Vedanta, Comparative Religion, Logic).
ii)
Comprehension (20 marks).
b) Interview (50 marks).
Last date for submission of application forms to the
Department : 30.07.2014.
c) No. of Seats : 12 ( Reservation policy will be followed as
per rules)
d) List of candidates eligible to appear for the direct
interview will be put up on
07.08.2014.
d) List of candidates eligible to appear for the written test
will be put up on 07.08.2014.
e) List of candidates who have qualified for the written test
(14.08.2014) and are eligible
for the interview will be put up on 26.08.2014.
f) Interview will be held on 28.08.2014 and .29.08.2014 (if
required)
g) The final list of selected candidates shall be put up
latest by 17.09.2014.
h) Coursework will commence from 24.09.2014
