B.A./B.Com OPEN STREAM – ENTRANCE EXAM
Applications are invited for the BA/B.Com Open
Stream Entrance Examination 2014 conducted by School of Distance Education,
Calicut University.
This scheme is mainly to envisage facility for
those who could not undergo the regular studies due to various reasons; but
eager to acquire a Degree. No basic educational qualification is insisted for
admission to the course through the open stream. The applicants have to appear
for an entrance examination and only those who secure a minimum of 35% marks in
the examination are admitted to the Degree programme.
The course is conducted as per the UGC Act 1956
notification No.F.1-117/83(cp) dated, 28.11.1985 Notification.
1. Eligibility :- All those who have attained the
age of 18 years by the first day of July 2014 are eligible to apply for the
entrance examination.
2.How to apply :- The students desirous of joining
for the Degree course have to submit application online. To access online
application, visit the home page of website www.universityofcalicut.info and
click the link Online Registration > BA/B.Com Open Entrance Examination 2014
Before filling the application form the recent passport size photograph should
be scanned and kept in JPEG format.
Remit the fee by chalan/DD (Outside India) towards
the application fee. Photo in the printout of the application should be
attested by Gazetted Officer. The printout, along-with chalan/DD , attested
copies of documents to prove date of birth, Caste (if SC/ST), Self addressed
stamped (Rs.5) envelope of size 22 cm × 10 cm should be submitted to the
Director, School of Distance Education in any of the manner given below and
obtain study material and question bank.
Candidates should keep the online Reg.No. for the
purpose of downloading the Hall ticket.
Candidates inside Kerala should remit the fees by
way of chalan only. DD is not accepted.

self addressed stamped ( 120/-) envelope of size 30cm x 25 cm.

[Candidates abroad and outside Kerala should apply
through the approved Counselling
Centres. Counselling centres should forward the
printout of the application in one bundle with documents proving age, DD etc.

3. Proof of Age : An attested photocopy of relevant
page of SSLC book (if appeared for SSLC)/Birth Certificate/ Driving
Licence/Passport/Extract of School Admission Register should be sent along-with
the application.4. Entrance Examination Fee
Candidates enrolled in India : 1000/- SC/ST : 500/-
Candidates enrolled abroad : USD 120
Postage fee : 120/- (Only for those who submit the printout
of the online application by post)
5.Scheme of Entrance Examination
The examination will be objective type with
multiple choices. There are three papers of 2 hours of duration for the
entrance examination, each carrying a maximum of 100 marks.
Paper I General English 2 hours 100 marks
Paper II Hindi or Malayalam or Arabic 2 hours 100
marks
Paper III 1. Indian History (or) 2 hours 100 marks
2. Politics (or)
3. Economics (or)
4. Commerce
The questions for the examinations will be based on
the study materials supplied by the SDE on receipt of the printout of the
application submitted online with the required fee. The questions for the
examination will be from the given Question Bank. Candidates should appear in
Paper I General English and in Hindi, Malayalam or Arabic under Paper II and in
any one of the four subjects under Paper III. Those who desire to join for the
B.Com Degree Course should select Commerce under Paper III. Those who want to
take Malayalam or Arabic or Hindi Language and Literature as main for B.A.
should select Malayalam or Arabic or Hindi under Paper II (as per the paper
chosen), and any of the subjects in Paper III except Commerce. Candidates for
the B.A.
Subjects i.e. History, Politics, Economics,
Sociology and English should write Paper I, II and any one of the three
subjects under Paper III except Commerce for entrance examination.
Detailed time table will be given to the candidates
well in advance, intimating the schedule of examination through the website.
Printout of applications addressed to Director, School
of Distance Education will also be received by the Co-Ordinators of the Study
Centres, SDE on Saturdays and Sundays.6. Centres of Examination & Hall
Ticket
Candidates should select the name of the district
in the application in the column provided for entering the name of examination
centre. Name of the College/School centres will be furnished by this office on
the Admission Ticket. The Admission Ticket can be downloaded from first week of
August 2014 onwards from the University website using the online Registration
key number allotted to them.
7. Result of Entrance Exam
Those who secure a minimum of 105 marks out of 300
(35%) in the entrance examination are admitted to the degree course. The
candidates who are absent for one or more papers will not be eligible for a
pass in the examination. There is no revaluation or recounting for the entrance
exam. No mark list or certificate of the entrance examination will be issued to
the candidate.
Entrance examination is conducted only for the
purpose of selecting eligible candidates to open stream degree courses in the
particular year and the examination is not treated as equivalent to any
examination conducted by the University. Result will be published by 1st week
of September 2014. A self addressed stamped (Rs. 5/-) cover for intimating the
result should be enclosed.
ADMISSION TO
THE DEGREE COURSE
The result of Open Entrance Exam will be published
in the website. The successful candidates have to submit an online formal
application with prescribed fee for the course. For submitting the application
log on to www.universityofcalicut.info and click the link application for
admission to BA/B.Com (Open Stream) and enter the Entrance Exam Registration
No. to get and submit online application form. Printout of the application form
along with chalan for required fee, proof of age and three self addressed
envelopes should be forwarded to the Director, School of Distance Education,
University of Calicut-673 635. Fee Details will be available in the website in
due course.
