A.M.E. Degree Course's
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Airframe & Engine)

ABOUT THE COURSE
With the recent boom in the Aircraft industry and lot of licensed airplanes competing for space in the air, this program has been one of the favorites among students who want to grab a share of that glory.
Training for the AME Course at HIET has been approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The AME License Examination is conducted by the DGCA, Govt of India. The duration of training at the institute is 2 1/2 years, over five semesters and followed by one semester (six months) of post Institutional Apprenticeship in a DGCA approved flying club, airlines or aircraft operator. Facilities are also available at Orient Flight School (O.F.S), a sister concern of H.I.E.T to undergo practical and post institutional training and apprenticeship up to Turboprop aircrafts.

FACILITIES
Our labs include Aircraft Electricity Labs, Engines Lab (Jet, Piston, I.C), Instruments lab includes various testing equipment for calibration of various aircraft instruments, Dead Weight testers, Aircraft Instrument panels, Vacuum chambers, ATC-810 Flight simulator. Our aircraft engines include a wide variety of Jet engines such as Rolls Royce Avon Mark 100 Turbo jet, De Haviland Goblin Mark 3 Turbo jet engine, Pratt & Whitney JT 3D Turbo Fan engine. Other Aircraft engines of Tigermoth, Cessna 152, Elle 5, Gypsy Queen are available for instruction and practical exercises. These engines and our practical workshop give an opportunity to the student to study the various theories of propulsion and flight characteristics of an aircraft and give a leading edge over the others. The reference books, Periodicals, Aviation magazines and text books in our library keep the student abreast with the knowledge in the aviation field. In short, HIET provides all facilities to make a student a successful Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The course material has been neatly designed to equip our students to easily grab the opportunities that come. The course includes basic subjects like General Engg, Computer basics then going on to program oriented subjects like Aircraft Materials, Aircraft Construction, I.C Engines, Aircraft Maintenance ’A’(Air Frame) & ’C’(Engine), Aircraft Repairs ,Aircraft rules part I and II, Piston Engine I and II, Jet Engine etc and practicals.

SUGGESTED PROCEDURE
The basic papers for the AME License Examination conducted by the DGCA, New Delhi are:

On completion of the II Semester (1 year completion) an AME student is advised to appear for the Basic Paper I of the AME License Examination conducted by the DGCA, New Delhi and at the end of two years for Paper II. Similarly, on completion of the V Semester (2 1/2 years of completion) an AME student is advised to appear for the Basic Paper III on Light Aircraft and Piston Engine.

The advantage of passing the Basic Papers, I, II & III (Light Aircraft, L.A / Piston Engine, P.E) as early as possible is that it will be much easier for the student to acquire the much coveted AME License later on by passing only in specific Paper IV applicable to the type of Airframe/Engine and Avionics Systems (E.I.R) on which he/she has gained the requisite practical maintenance experience as per Aircraft Rules/CAR. Also, after passing paper I,II & III he/she will be eligible to get a Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (BAMEL) from the DGCA which will enable the student to get a job in the aviation industry

ASSESSMENT
It is mandatory for a student to put in a minimum of 80% attendance in every semester to appear for the examination and also for promotion to the next semester. The minimum pass marks in any test or examination is 70%. Students short of attendance are not qualified for the promotion to the next semester.
