Invites applications for Ph.D. program in Engineering Science
from Candidates with M.E. /M.Tech (Nuclear Engineering / Nuclear Science &
Technology) Degree
Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) is a premier
scientific institute under the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India
devoted to research and development activities in the areas of Magnetic Confinement
fusion, Basic Plasma Physics and Industrial applications of plasmas. IPR has
initiated a new Ph.D. programme in Engineering Sciences, which is extremely
challenging in view of interdisciplinary state of the art technologies. For the
motivated candidates, it offers considerable scope
to realize their potential while simultaneously
contributing to the important task of nation building in this highly
specialized area.
Applications are hereby invited from M.E./M.Tech
(Nuclear Engineering / Nuclear Science & Technology) students for pursuing
research in Engineering Science discipline leading to the award of Ph.D. degree
under Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). During PhD, students will get PhD fellowship.
The terms and conditions of the PhD Fellowships are as under -
1. The Ph.D. Fellowship is tenable for three years
for doing Ph.D.
2. The amount of Fellowship payable under the
scheme is Rs.18,000/- per month for 1st two years and
Rs.20000/- per month for the 3rd year. Book grant of Rs.10,000/- per year will
also be paid. Besides fellowship, Hostel Accommodation or House Rent Allowance
in lieu of it, Medical benefits under IPR’s
CHSS scheme and subsidised Canteen facilities are
also applicable as per IPR rules.
ELIGIBILITY -
a. Qualifying Degree and other academic
qualifications: Candidates should possess M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent degree in
Nuclear Engineering / Nuclear Science & Technology disciplines with minimum
60% marks OR equivalent CGPI (converted to % Marks by multiplying with 100/x if
the CGPA is on x points scale) in M.E/M.Tech. Students should also have minimum
60% marks in their graduate/postgraduate degree prior to M.E./M.Tech.
Only those candidates who already have qualifying
degree or are going to receive their final results by
1st August 2014 need apply.
b. Age limit: 28 years. Only those candidates who
are born on or after August 1, 1986 need apply.
Age relaxation is admissible to SC / ST / OBC / PHP
/ etc. as per Government of India orders on the subject.
Age limit is relaxable by five years for SC/ST and
three years for OBC applicants. Physically Handicapped Persons (PHP) of all
categories are eligible for age relaxation of 10 years.
c. Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian
citizen.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants who fulfil the above mentioned
eligibility criteria, will be called to IPR, Ahmedabad tentatively on 30th
July 2014, for a written screening test
for which no travelling allowance will be paid.
Personal interview will be conducted of the
shortlisted candidates on the same day. Interview may spill
over next day from the written screening test date
depending on the number of shortlisted candidates.
Institute does not take the responsibility of
overnight stay of the candidates. Request for change of date
or time of written test/interview shall not be
entertained.
Outstation applicants shortlisted for personal
interview after the written screening test will be paid, Sleeper Class / Second
Class to and fro Rail / State Transport bus fare by direct and shortest route
or the actual fare, whichever is less, on production of tickets or proof of
journey such as Railway / Bus ticket or ticket no.
Final selection will be solely on the basis of
performance in interview subject to medical fitness.

HOW TO APPLY
Applications can be submitted online only from
10.00 am of 16th June 2014 to
5.00 pm of 27th June 2014.
A non-refundable Application fee of Rs.200 (Rupees
Two hundred only) in form of Demand Draft only
payable at Gandhinagar in the name of Institute for
Plasma Research is chargeable for General and OBC candidates.
Applicants working in Central/ State Government
Units/ PSUs/ Aided Institutions may apply with due permission from their
respective competent authorities. Such candidates if called for written
screening
test are required to submit No Objection
Certificate at the time of written screening test.
Hard copy along with the Application ID obtained
while filling online application from our web page at http://www.ipr.res.in/advertisements.html
with one recent passport size photograph
duly affixed on
the right hand top corner of the application along
with demand draft, copies of testimonials in support of Age, Qualification,
caste, etc. should reach the “Chairman, Academic Committee”, Institute for
Plasma Research at the above address on or before 5.30 pm of 4th July 2014. Hard copy should be sent strictly
by Registered post/Speed Post and it should be sent
sufficiently in advance to avoid postal delays. The “Address Slip with Bar
code” obtained while submitting online application should be pasted on the envelope.

Fulfilling minimum qualification & filing
online applications does not entail a call for written test/interview. The
applications received in response to the advertisement shall be scrutinized and
only
eligible candidates shortlisted from valid
applicants, on the basis of all criteria like Age, Educational Qualifications,
Percentage, etc. shall be called for screening test. The authorities reserve
all rights, not to call an applicant for written test/interview, without
