BHMS Admissions 2012-2013

National Institute of Homoeopathy, an autonomous organisation under Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and located at Block-GE, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700 106, has invited applications for admission to the BHMS Degree Course in Homoeopathy (5½ yrs including one year compulsory Rotatory Internship) of the academic year 2012-13.

Applicant should be Indian National and should attain 17 years but should not cross the age of 25 years as on 31st December, 2012. Those born on or before 31st December, 1987 or after 1st January, 1996 are not eligible to apply. Applicant should have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and obtained 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates). Those who have appeared for Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination can also apply subject to the result of their qualifying examination being published before the admission and subject to their satisfying the eligibility conditions to be substantiated by production of documentary proof. Blind (including colour blind), deaf, and/or dumb candidates are not eligible to apply for the course.

A total of 93 seats are available for admission to the BHMS Degree Course. The seats reserved among various categories is as follows:
(i) Fourteen seats are reserved for the candidates nominated from different States/Union Territories. 1 seat each is reserved for Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep and Puducherry and two each for candidates from Mizoram and Tripura.

(ii) Six seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals of which 5 are for candidates from Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical & Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC) countries nominated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Azad Bhavan, Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi and 1 seat is reserved for Foreign National candidates under self-financing scheme nominated by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.

(iii) Ten seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by Govt. of Sri Lanka through the Dept. of AYUSH, Govt.of India. (If the scheduled number of candidates are not sponsored by Govt. of Sri Lanka, those seats shall remain vacant; no other candidate will be admitted against these seats).

(iv) Two seats are reserved for candidates from Malaysia as per directive of Govt. of India.

The remaining seats will be filled up through All-India Admission Test. Reservation including to those belonging to Orthopaedically Challenged (locomotory disability involving the lower limb) / OBC category will be made as per instructions. Those desirous of availing such reservation facilities under OBC quota have to enclose attested copy of their OBC certificate issued by appropriate authority along with a declaration that she/he does not belong to creamy layer of the society. The format is available at the Institute website and the attested copy must be as prescribed.

Admissions test of three hours' duration will be held on 3rd June, 2012 (Sunday) at Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvanthapuram and Bhopal. Applicants have to give their choice of centres in the application. In case the number of applicants who opt for a particular centre are few, then the centres at Hyderabad, Thiruvanthapuram and Bhopal will be cancelled and the candidates will be allotted the nearest centre. Accordingly, candidates who opt for Hyderabad, Thiruvanthapuram and Bhopal have to mention his / her second choice of centre of examination from amongst Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Candidates must note that centre of examination once allotted to them will not be changed and any request for such change will not be entertained at any subsequent stage.

The test will comprise of 200 multiple choice questions with 60 each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and 20 from General Knowledge. There will be negative marking for wrong answers.

The application has to be given on three A4 size paper (two pages for the application proforma and one page for the identification card). It has to be filled in candidate's own handwriting. It has to be submitted along with a Bank Draft for Rs. 500/- in favour of Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy, payable at Kolkata. No bank draft is required in case of SC/ST candidates. However, a copy of caste certificate attested by a Gazetted Officer should accompany the application in such cases. Candidates who claim to belong to any one of the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes should submit in support of his/her claim an attested/certified copy of a certificate along with the filled-in form.

Applicants should enclose high contrast 3.5 cm X 4.5 cm colour photograph clearly showing full head, face, shoulders and both ears without wearing any cap/hat/sunglasses. Polaroid photo is not acceptable. Photograph must have been taken on or after 31st March, 2012 with a placard indicating the name of the candidate and the date of taking the photograph. The name and date of the photograph must be clear and legible. Two copies of the photographs are to be pasted in the specified area on the application, and they should be attested by a Gazetted Officer after pasting, with part of signature on the photograph and part of signature on the application form. Two identical copies of the photograph should be signed on the reverse by the candidate and enclosed with the application. Applications incomplete and/or accompanied by hazy, old or unidentifiable photographs are liable to be rejected without assigning any reason.

Applicants must put their full signature in all the places asked for at all the stages of admission process. Candidates need not send photo copies of testimonials with application except attested copy of caste certificate in case of SC/ST candidates claiming exemption from paying application fee and OBC/Orthopaedically Handicapped claiming reservation in admission. The original caste certificate must be submitted for verification if provisionally selected.

The duly filled-in application should reach the office of the Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy, Block-GE, Sector-III, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700 106 on or before 30th April, 2012.

Admit Card and Prospectus will be sent by post. The list of candidates with their Roll numbers and Centres will be available at http://www.nih.nic.in

Results of admission test will be published on 18th June, 2012. Result of the qualified candidates will be communicated by post and the merit list will also be available in the NIH website: http://www.nih.nic.in

The Counselling for admission will be on 3rd & 4th July, 2012.
