Admission to all programmes is strictly based on merit only.
For B.Tech programmes, 70% of the total seats will be filled by SASTRA based on the qualifying +2 exam marks following the process of normalization. To bring all candidates from different examining Authorities / Boards in the same scale of comparison and to create a list in the order of merit, the aggregate +2 marks will be normalized. A first rank student of each board is considered to have obtained 100% mark and aggregate mark of all other students of the board is normalized with reference to that of the first rank student. For example, if the first rank is 97% and an applicant's aggregate is 90% then the applicant's normalized percentage is 92.78 (90/97 x 100). A merit list is drawn based on the normalized percentage for making admissions.
The remaining 30% of the seats will be filled by SASTRA based on the AIEEE-2012 (AIR-General Category) ranks. Application for the same has to be submitted online. The online submission module will be available immediately after the AIEEE-2012 results are announced. Students who have applied under the 70% category should also apply online if they so desire to be considered under the AIEEE stream. In the event, the student is admitted in the 70% category, he or she can change branch if required, under the AIEEE stream also. If vacancy arise, such transfer is possible without any additional fee.
70% of the seats will be filled in the following method. (i) 20% (10%+10%) of intake will be offered to students from Trichy and Thanjavur Districts, provided the applicant has completed both X and XII from any school located in Trichy or Thanjavur District; (ii) 50% of the intake will be offered to those who complete X and XII standards in schools within Tamil Nadu (Puducherry included); (iii) The remaining 30% will be for students who have completed X and XII outside Tamil Nadu.
For all PG programmes the admissions will be made on the basis of the scores in the qualifying UG / PG degree programme.
