Diploma in Radiation Medicine - BARC

The Radiation Medicine Centre of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has invited applications for admission to the Diploma in Radiation Medicine (DRM) and Diploma in Medical Radioisotope Techniques (DMRIT) Post-Graduate courses under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) - a Deemed University, Mumbai.

Diploma in Radiation Medicine (DRM) Programme extending over 2 academic years (2009-2011), is designed to equip candidates for working in Nuclear Medicine Centres. The Programme comprises full time schedule of lectures, demonstrations, practicals, apprentice programmes and clinics. Examinations will be conducted by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai. Candidates should not hold any other job during the period of training, or join any other training programme.

Applicant should have M.B.B.S. Degree including internship of an MCI recognized University. One house post in Medicine is essential from a Hospital recognized by the MCI. Candidates having postgraduate medical qualification may also apply. Candidates sponsored by Medical Institutions with immediate prospect of post training employment will compete for 1 (one) seat. Sponsored candidates should furnish an employment certificate from the Head of Institution stating that their salary will be paid during the training period.

Applicant should not be more than 40 years of age as on 1st May, 2009. It is realxable for SC/ST, OBC and sponsored candidates.

Admission will be based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) to be held at BARC, Trombay, Mumbai. It will consist of 150 Multiple Choice questions of III MBBS level, covering Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Internal Medicine (Cardiology, Pediatrics, Oncology), Infectious diseases, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology and Recent Advances in Medicine. There is negative marking for incorrect answers A candidate has to score 50% marks to qualify.

There are 4 seats for the Programme of which 3 are non-sponsored and 1 sponsored. If enough candidates in any one category do not qualify, more candidates may be taken from other category subject to qualifying as per merit list and availability of resources. A stipend of Rs.7000/- for 1st iear and Rs.7250/- for 2nd year will be given to each non-sponsored trainee. No stipend is admissible to sponsored trainee.

Diploma in Medical Radioisotope Techniques (DMRIT) Programme extends for one Academic Year (2009-2010) and will equip candidates for working in Nuclear Medicine Centres. The training will comprise of a full time schedule of lectures, demonstrations, practicals and apprentice programmes. Examinations will be conducted by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai. Candidates should not hold any other job during the period of training, or join any other training programme.

Applicant should hold B.Sc. Degree with minimum 60% marks on aggregate in Science subjects of a recognized University with Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biophysics, B.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology) or B.Sc. (Medical Radiological Technology). Those having M.Sc. Degree may also apply, but they will not have any preference in selection. Candidates sponsored by Institutions with immediate prospect of post training employment can apply if they have 55% aggregate marks in B.Sc. in the field mentioned above. They should furnish an employment certificate from the Head of Institution stating that their salary will be paid during the training period and that they will be employed suitably following successful completion of training. Applicant should not be more than 35 years of age as on 1st May, 2009. Upper age limit is relaxable in case of SC/ST, OBC and Sponsored candidates.

Admission will be based on a Common Entrance Test (CET), to be held at BARC, Trombay, Mumbai. It will have 150 multiple choice questions having negative marking for incorrect answers, with syllabus drawn from Science Subjects of Standard XII or equivalent. Candidate has to get a minimum of 50% marks to qualify. Number of seats available is 10, of which 5 will be non-sponsored and 5 sponsored. One seat is reserved for SC/ST/OBC candidate either from sponsored or non-sponsored category. A stipend of Rs.4000/- will be given to each non-sponsored trainee. No stipend is admissible to sponsored trainees.

For both Programmes, no fees for the training programme will be charged by BARC. However, necessary fees to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), as prescribed by them will have to be paid. A caution deposit of Rs. 2000/- will have to be remitted by the selected candidates to BARC.

Trainees may apply for hostel accommodation. They will have to pay for boarding and lodging. However, accommodation is not guaranteed. Single copy of the application, type written on thick foolscap paper of size, 34 cm x 22 cm, should be submitted as per Proforma in an envelope super-scribed 'DRM/DMRIT Common Entrance Test'  along with (i) 2 clear front face photographs (passport size) with light background, with one pasted on the top right hand corner of the application and the other, with name of the applicant written in block letters on the reverse (ii) a self addressed envelope of size 200 mm x 110 mm (iii) attested copies of MBBS Degree certificate & mark sheet for DRM and attested copies of B.Sc. Degree (Convocation) Certificate & Mark list along with mark sheet of Higher Secondary (XII Std) for DMRIT should be attached to the application. Those working under the Central/State Government/Public Sector Undertaking should submit their applications through proper channel. They may however, send advance copy.

Completed applications with enclosures, should reach 'Deputy Establishment Officer (R-II), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Mumbai 400 085' latest by 3rd April, 2009.
