B.A. in Social Work
Tata Institute of Social Sciences has invited applications for admission to the 3- Year B.A. in Social Work with Specialization in Rural Development (Honours), offered by its School of Rural Development located at PB No. 9, Tuljapur (near Solapur), Osmanabad District, Maharashtra - 413 601.
The main areas identified for learning include Programme and process skills through integrated practice, Understanding of the rural context (ecological, economic, social, cultural and political), Orientation to development; government policies and programmes; the voluntary sector, Skills in communication; working with individuals, families and groups; community organisation and action; project/ programme planning, baseline assessment, evaluation and administration; research, advocacy and networking, Orientation to macro-micro development linkages etc.
Applicant should have passed Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) course with minimum aggregate of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST). All relevant documents in original are to be produced at the time of admission preliminaries. Those who have appeared in their Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) and are awaiting their results are also be eligible to apply provisionally.
Application Forms can be obtained by sending a request letter to the Deputy Registrar (Academics), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai, Maharashtra-400 088, along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 550/- drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai or by sending a request letter to the Deputy Registrar, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Rural Development, Rural Campus, Post Box 09, Tuljapur, Osmanabad District, Maharashtra-413 601, along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 550/-, drawn on any Nationalized bank in favour of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur, payable at Tuljapur to reach the addressees latest by March 27, 2009.
Application forms will be available from the Cash Counter either of the TISS, SRD, Rural Campus, Tuljapur or TISS, Mumbai Campus, Deonar, Mumbai on payment of Rs. 500/-.in cash between 10.30 a.m and 3.00 p.m from Monday to Friday and between 10.30 a.m and 1.00 p.m on Saturdays, till April 8, 2009.
Application can be downloaded from www.tiss.edu and submitted with a Demand Draft for Rs. 500/- drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favour of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur, payable at Tuljapur. SC/ST applicants need not pay for Application Form and Information Brochure, if they are unemployed and the income of their parents/guardians was Rupees One lakh or below, during the financial year 2007-2008. They will be required either to (i) download the Application Form from www.tiss.edu and enclose a true copy of Caste/Tribe and Income Certificate with the filled Application Form or (ii) send their request letter either to the Deputy Registrar, TISS, Tuljapur, or to the Deputy Registrar (Academics), TISS, Mumbai, enclosing an attested Photocopy of the Caste/Tribe Certificate issued in the candidate's name by a village revenue officer or a Tehsildar and an attested copy of the Income Certificate for the year 2007–2008 of the applicant's parents/guardian issued by the employer or by any appropriate authority.
Duly filled-in Application Forms should reach Deputy Registrar (Academics), Tata Institute of Social Sciences, V.N. Purav Marg, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 or Deputy Registrar, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Rural Development, Rural Campus, Post Box 09, Tuljapur, Osmanabad District, Maharashtra-413 601, by Registered/Speed Post or by Courier latest by 4.30 p.m on April 8, 2009.
Admission will be based on a written Test of 2 hours duration in English/Hindi, to be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi and Tuljapur followed by Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) only for those who clear the written test. The test is designed to assess the knowledge of the candidates about India-society, economy and polity, and to assess comprehension. General knowledge will also be tested. There will be questions to assess the attitude of students towards social issues and the aptitude for social work. General applicants should get a minimum of 50% marks and SC/ST applicants, 45% marks in the Written Test to qualify for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
