Pilot Training Admissions 2012-2013


Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a Government of Kerala undertaking, has invited applications from Indian Nationals, interested in a flying career, for admission to (i) Commercial Pilot Licence training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) (ii) Private Pilot Licence training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) and (iii) Ground Classes only Programmes for 2012-13.

Applicant should be at least 17 years of age as on 30th June, 2012.  For CPL, applicant should have a pass in +2 or equivalent (Academic Stream), with a minimum of 50% marks and an aggregate of 60 % in Mathematics, Physics and English. For admission to the PPL/Ground Class only, a pass in the 10th Standard or equivalent with English as a subject and a minimum of 60% marks, is the minimum qualification. 

Those having a Degree in Mathematics, Physics, BTech / BE will be given 10% weightage. Fluency in spoken English will be an added qualification for both CPL and PPL Courses. Duration of training for CPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) is approximately 3 years and that of PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) is approximately, 1 year. For Ground Classes, PPL Standard, it is approximately 6 months.

For CPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) there is a maximum of 10 seats (reservation for SC/ST will be as per Govt. rules). The fee is approximately Rs. 21.5 lakhs (200 hrs), to be paid in instalments as decided by the Academy and is inclusive of a security deposit of Rs 50,000/-, to be refunded at the end of flying training.

For PPL/Ground Classes only, there is a maximum of 5 seats for PPL/Ground classes (Private Pilot Licence-PPL Standard) for issue of Student Pilot Licence (SPL) & Flight Radio Telephony Operator Licence (FRTOL). Fee for PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) is approximately Rs. 7.19 lakhs (60 hrs), to be paid in instalments as decided by the Academy and is inclusive of a security deposit Rs 50,000/-, to be refunded at the end of flying training and,. 

For Ground Classes only (PPL level), the fee is Rs. 50,000/-, to be paid in one instalment. The fee prescribed does not include DGCA Examination / Licence Fees. Admission process includes written test & interview. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a DG CA medical examination. 

The written test will be common for all the Programmes. The test of three hours duration will have a paper having objective type questions from Physics, Mathematics, English, Geography, IQ and General Awareness (including aviation). Those securing a minimum of 50% marks in the written test will be called for interview. Candidates who are successful in written test and interview will be required to undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test. A merit list will be prepared subsequent to the medical exam. 

Place of training will be Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and other airports as required. Ground Classes will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram. Applicants from Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) require No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective Headquarters before commencement of flying.  Parent / guardian of the candidate should be present at the time of interview. All original documents along with attested copies will have to be produced at the time of interview. Applicants who are successful in the interview will be directed to appear for DGCA Medical Examination. Details are available in the Prospectus. Other conditions related to the training are also given in the Prospectus. 

Flying training will comprise minimum 200 hrs for CPL and 60 hrs for PPL on aircraft of the academy plus ground classes. Training on Simulators will be provided, when simulators are available, on payment of extra fees. The trainees admitted for Ground Classes only, after completion of the course and passing the required DGCA exam, will be issued SPL&FRTOL with which they will be able to join other training institutes/ flying clubs in India for flying training. They will be given preference for admission for flying in this Academy as and when vacancies arise.
