ADMISSION TO NEW GENERATION PG COURSES 2012-13
Applications are invited for admission to the following courses offered in affiliated colleges for the academic year 2012-2013.
Category A: Master of Social Work (M.S.W)
B: M.Sc. Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Applied Microbiology/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering/ Toxicology/Genomics &Proteomics/ Bio Material & Tissue Engineering/ Phyto Medical Science& Technology
C : M.Sc. Biostatistics
D : M.Sc Environmental Science & Management
E : M.Sc. Food science & Technology / M.Sc. Food Science & Quality
Control /Food Technology & Quality Assurance.
Duration of the course
For all the above mentioned courses, the duration is for a period of two years, consisting of four semesters.
Eligibility
M.S.W : Any graduates from Mahatma Gandhi University or any other Universities recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University with an aggregate of 50% for Part I,II&III put together.
M.Sc. Biotechnology : A candidate seeking admission to M.Sc Biotechnology must have atleast 50% marks in biological Sciences viz, Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Bio physics, Biotechnology, Biological Techniques & Specimen Preparation and Microbiology or Chemistry at the graduate level. Graduates in MLT course with not less than 50%marks are also eligible. MBBS, B.Tech Degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc . Microbiology :A candidate seeking admission to M.Sc Microbiology must have at least 50% marks in Biological Sciences viz. Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Biological Techniques & Specimen Preparation and Microbiology or Chemistry at the graduate level; Candidates having BSc degree in Industrial Microbiology and Medical Microbiology with 50% marks are also eligible. Graduates in MLT course with not less than 50% marks are also eligible. MBBS, B.Tech Degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc Bio-informatics : B.Sc in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Bio-informatics, Botany, Zoology/Plant Biology/Chemistry/Computer Science, Computer Application, Electronics, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics with not less than 50% marks in the subject concerned.
MBBS, BTech and BSc. MLT degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc. Plant Biotechnology : Botany as main or subsidiary subject, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Agriculture Science, Environmental Science, with not less than 50% marks. MBBS and BTech degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc . Biochemistry : B.Sc. Degree in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biological Techniques & Specimen Preparation, Chemistry and Physics with 50%marks in part III of respective subjects. Graduates in MLT course with not less than 50%marks are also eligible. MBBS, B.Tech Degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc. Molecular Biology & Genetic Engineering : Graduation in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemical Science and other Biological Sciences from a University recognized by the UGC with not less than 50%marks in aggregate. Graduates in Biomedical Engineering, Biotech Engineering & BTech are also eligible.
M. Sc. Toxicology : Graduation in Pharmacology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemical Science & Agriculture from a University recognized by the UGC with not less than 50%marks in aggregate. Graduates of Biomedical Engineering and BTech can also apply.
M.Sc. Genomics & Proteomics : Graduation in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemical Science and other Biological Sciences from a University recognized by the UGC with not less than 50% marks in aggregate. Graduates of Biomedical Engineering, Biotech Engineering and BTech are also eligible.
M.Sc. Biomaterial &Tissue Engineering : Graduation in Biotechnology, Pharmacology, Medicine, , Veterinary Science, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemical Science and other Biological Sciences from a University recognized by the UGC with not less than 50%marks in aggregate. Graduates of Biomedical Engineering, Biotech Engineering and BTech are also eligible.M.Sc. Phytomedical Science & Technology: B.Sc degree in any branch of Biological
Science or Chemistry or Environmental Science or Agriculture or Veterinary Science, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the concerned subjects, recognized by the M.G University. BAMS or MBBS or BHMS or BSMS or B.Pharm degree, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in these concerned subjects, recognized by the M.G University, Kottayam. Graduates in Engineering are also eligible.
M.Sc. Biostatistics: Candidates having a minimum of 50% marks in BSc. Mathematics/ Physics/Statistics/Computer Science or Computer Applications with statistics as a Subject. Those candidates with B Sc in Life Sciences like Botany, Zoology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food Technology, Industrial Microbiology, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Food Sciences, who have studied Mathematics as a subject at Plus Two/Pre-Degree are also eligible, provided they have secured at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination. Further, those candidates with 50% marks in B.Sc Electronics or any other B.Sc degree with Statistics and Probability as subjects in their curriculum are also eligible for admission. Any B.Sc student with 50% of marks can apply for admission provided they have studied Mathematics or Statistics or Probability Theory at Plus Two level. MBBS, B.Tech Degree holders can also apply.
M.Sc. Environmental Science & Management : B.Sc. Degree in any one of the Science subjects Botany/Zoology/Chemistry/Physics/Environmental Science/Environment Management/ Microbiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Forestry/ any branch of Life Science/ Geology/ Geography or an equivalent examination or an Engineering degree in Civil /Mechanical / Chemical/ Environmental Branch with an aggregate of 50%marks in the optional.
M.Sc. Food Science and Technology: A degree in Science or Technology having Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Family & Community Science, Microbiology or Nutrition as one of the subjects in their curriculum with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks of a University recognized by M.G University. M.Sc. Food Science and Quality Control : Bachelors degree in Science or Technology having Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology, Home Science, Micro Biology, Family and Community Science or Nutrition as any one of the subjects in their curriculam with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
(Only female candidates need apply for the course, since the course is offered in a women’s College).
M.Sc. Food Technology & Quality Assurance: Degree in either Chemistry, BSc. Food Science and Quality Control, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Food Technology and Quality Assurance, Microbiology, Biotechnology or Life Science with a minimum of 50% aggregate in the main subjects from a recognized University.
For all courses, SC/ST candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination.
SEBC and OEC candidates will be given a relaxation of 3% and 5% respectively in the prescribed minimum marks. Weightage of marks for proficiency in NCC/NSS etc and bonus marks for Ex-
Servicemen applicants and widows and children of Jawans/ Ex-Servicemen will be given as per the existing rules of admission. Reservation for candidates with outstanding records in sports and games shall be allowed as per rules. 3%of the seats under Merit quota are reserved for physically challenged candidates.
How and When to apply :
Application forms can be downloaded from the website of the Mahatma Gandhi University www.mgu.ac.in from 23.07.2012 onwards. An application fee of Rs. 400/- (Rs.200/-for SC/ST candidates) shall be remitted either at the cash counter of the University or at FRIENDS JANASEVANAKENDRAM or by way of M.G.University Chalan from State Bank of Travancore. Application fee can also be remitted by way of DD drawn in favour of the Finance officer, Mahatma Gandhi University payable at SBT M.G University Campus Branch (code No. 669). Fee once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstances. Since the admission to the programme under merit and management categories is based on a common rank list prepared by the University based on the marks of qualifying examination and Entrance Test, all the candidates are required to submit applications in the office of the Assistant Registrar (Acad II), M.G. University,
Priyadarsini Hills, Kottayam PIN 686 560. However, admission to management seats shall be made by the management concerned from the rank list irrespective of the rank secured by the candidate.
If a candidate wishes to apply for more than one category of courses, he/she shall submit applications for each category separately.
Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply for admission to the above courses provided they shall produce the proof of qualification on or before the last date prescribed by the University.
A self- addressed stamped envelope shall be enclosed along with the application.

Category E : 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm on 04.08.2012

Centralized Allotment Process
Admission /Allotment of seats under merit quota is governed by a Centralised Allotment Process. Selection/ Allotment of a candidate to any college will be based on the rank of the candidate and the availability of the seats. While a reserved category candidate entitled to admission on the basis of his/her merit will have the option of taking admission to the colleges where a specified number of seats have been kept reserved for reserved category but while computing the percentage of reservation he/she will be deemed to have been admitted as an open category candidate and not as a reserved category candidate.
Admission memo will be issued to the selected candidates after the Centralized Allotment Process. It is obligatory for the candidates to report to the college to which he/she is selected. Failure to appear before the Principal concerned for joining the course on the notified date and time will result in the forfeiture of his/her admission to the course and he/she will not be considered for any vacancies arising in future.
Vacancies arising after the first round of allotment of seats will be filled up according to the rank of the candidate and reservation norms. Option exercised at the time of counseling will be final and the candidate is bound to accept the allotment as per the option. There will be no mutual transfer between the candidates from one college to another.
