ADMISSION NOTIFICATION 2012-2013
Applications have been invited for admission to Full-time / Part-time PhD Programmes being offered in the University departments of Periyar University and full-time MPhil and PhD programmes being offered in the affiliated Colleges / Research Institutions of Periyar University during the Academic Year 2012-2013. Eligibility:
MPhil:
Candidates who have qualified for Post Graduate Degree of this University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto shall be eligible to register for the Degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in their respective subjects.
Candidates shall be required to have obtained a minimum of 55% of marks in their respective Post Graduate Degrees.
For the candidates belonging to SC / ST community and those who have qualified for the Master’s degree before 01.01.1991 the minimum eligibility marks shall be 50% in their Master’s Degree.
PhD:
For the purpose of admission to PhD, programme, a candidate should have obtained a Master Degree with not less than 55% of marks or an equivalent grade.
For the candidates belonging to SC / ST community and those who have qualified for the Master’s degree before 19th September 1992 the minimum eligibility marks shall be 50% in their Master’s degree.
Candidates can register under the following categories for the PhD programme:
a) Full Time (with or without stipend or fellowship)
b) Part Time (teacher or non-teacher; internal vis-à-vis external)
c) Research Fellows / Research Assistants / Technical Assistants / Project Assistants / Training Officers in Extension Departments approved by the University, appointed in the Research Projects funded by recognized Agencies / Government are also eligible to register for PhD on a full time basis in the same department provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria laid down.
d) Independent Research without Supervisor: Candidates appearing for final semester/year examination can also apply provided they satisfy the eligibility conditions for admission at the time of joining.

Applications and prospectus can be obtained from the Registrar, Periyar University, Salem-11.
Application Cost:
1. Rs.300/- (free for only one application for SC / ST / PH) in the form of Demand Draft in any nationalized banks in favour of The registrar, Periyar University, Salem payable at Salem. A self-addressed envelope for Rs.40/- of size 28X13 cms has to be enclosed to get the application by post. Separate request has to be made for each programme.
The envelope requesting application form may be superscribed "Request for application form for M.Phil/ Ph.D Admission". Candidates appearing for final semester/ year examination can also apply provided they satisfy the eligibility conditions for admission at the time of joining. The SC/ST candidates have to produce attested copy of PG degree certificate (or) Provisional certificate (or) PG all semester mark statement and community certificate along with the request letter.
Ph.D applications can be obtained and submitted thorughout they year for both full time and part-time programme. Registration is available four times ina year - January, April, July, October.
Last date for submission of application is 31-07-2012.
