ICSSR Fellowships 2011
[Fellowships General (Post Doctoral), Senior (Senior Social Scientist) & doctoral fellowships]
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has invited proposals for financial support through Fellowships General (Post Doctoral), Senior (Senior Social Scientist) & doctoral fellowships for the year 2011-12.
A. General & Senior Fellowships:
The research proposals may belong to any one of the social science disciplines or may be interdisciplinary in nature. The recognized disciplines are : (i) Economics / Commerce /Management / Business Administration
(ii) Sociology and Social Anthropology / Social Work/Demography / Gender Studies / Criminology;
(iii) Political Science / International Relations / Geography / Public Administration;
(iv) Psychology / Education; (v) Linguistics / Law & Other.
ELIGIBILITY:
For Senior & General fellowships a scholar must have Ph.D. Degree and good number of publication and the CV must indicate capability of independent research;
Age: For General Fellowship-50 years, and for Senior Fellowship-there is no age bar
VALUE AND DURATION:
The value of the Senior Fellowship is Rs.20,000/- p.m. and Rs.50,000/- as contingency grant per annum. In case of employed scholar, salary will be protected.
The value of the General Fellowship is Rs.18,000/- p.m. and Rs.30,000/- as contingency grant per annum. In case of employed scholar, salary will be protected. Maximum duration of a Senior and General Fellowships is two years.
B. Doctoral fellowships: Open category & North East Category
The broad disciplines recognized for such support are; Economics, Commerce, Management, Business Administration, Education, Psychology, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology and Social Science aspects of Anthropology, Demography, Geography, Law and Linguistics. The priority areas for consideration are: (Health, Education, Environment and Sustainable Development, Information/Communication Technology, Gender Studies, Centre-State Relations and National Security).
Eligibility for Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships:
a. Postgraduate in Social Sciences with at least 55% marks.
b. The candidate should have cleared National Eligibility Test (NET for JRF/Lecturership)/M.Phil/ or two research articles published in reputed social sciences journals (reprints to be attached).
c. The applicant must be registered for Ph.D.
Age:
The upper age limit for a doctoral fellow is below 35 years as on 1st July 2011 (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST). For teachers and professional staff of research institutes holding regular posts the upper age limit would be 45 years. In exceptional cases, where a candidate is found to have outstanding ability, the age limit may be relaxed marginally at the discretion of ICSSR.
Value:
The selected candidates will be paid a fellowship amount of Rs.12,000/ per month for two years extendable by one year in exceptional cases only, plus Rs.10,000/ per annum as contingency grant.

Complete application, as per the prescribed format, for all categories would include;
(i) five copies of research proposal,
(ii) five copies of bio-data in prescribed format,
(iii) Letter of consent from the affiliating organization, and
(vi) document containing the profile of the affiliating organization, only in case of NGO.
In case of General fellowship, Consent letter and Bio-Data of the supervisor including his phone number, and short summary of Ph.D. thesis (only one copy) is also required. For Salary protected Fellowships, Scholar should apply through proper channel.
Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates as per Govt. of India rules.
