RGIPT, Rae Bareli offers Ph.D. programmes in a wide
range of areas in Engineering, Science & Social Sciences. The broad
objective of the Ph.D. programme is to contribute to the development of
respective fields by conducting front-end research.
1.
Disciplines of Ph. D. Programme : Petroleum Engineering*, Chemical
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy#,
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Geoinformatics,
Management and English Literature.
*Candidates having Bachelor or Master degree in
Mechanical, Chemical, Production and Civil engineering are eligible to apply

Mechanical, Electrical & Chemical engineering and Master degree in Physics
are eligible to apply

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERION FOR Ph.D. ADMISSION:
One of the following in appropriate subject areas:
First class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST)/CGPA
or CPI of 6.5 in Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology (M.E./M.Tech.) or
equivalent
First class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST)
)/CGPA or CPI of 6.5 in Master’s degree in Science or a first class or 60%
marks (55% marks for SC/ST)/CGPA or CPI of 6.5 in Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech.). Candidates meeting this requirement MUST
also fulfill one of the following additional requirements:
Valid Gate Score
Valid CSIR /UGC / NBHM / DBT / DST Inspire Award or
Fellowship.
Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience
(for externally/self funded candidates, see more details in A 4)

3.ADMISSION
PROCEDURE
Admission in Ph.D. program is offered on the basis
of an interview. Candidates called for the interview are paid to and fro single
AC3 tier railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to
the venue of the interview. They have to produce evidence (railway ticket) in
support of their claim.
4.CATEGORIES
OF Ph.D. CANDIDATES
Regular category: Full time Teaching assistantship
(TA)/project assistantship (PA)
Students under this category are entitled for
Institute Teaching Assistantship as per institute norms (Please refer to Item
No. A 5 for financial assistance). Students joining under TA category must
assist in teaching or research, as assigned by the Institute, to the extent of
6 hours of work per week. The candidates joining under PA category are required
to work for about 20 hours a week on the Sponsored Research Project. The
continuation of the assistantship (TA/PA) will be subjected to satisfactory
performance of the duties assigned by the Department / Centre / School as well
as satisfactory academic performance.
Sponsored
Category: These candidates are sponsored by recognized corporations or
R&D organizations for doing research work in the Institute on a full
time/part time basis. An undertaking from the employer stating the same should
be furnished along with the application form. Candidates are expected to be
released for full time research work at the Institute with full pay for a
minimum period of three years. They will not receive any financial support from
the Institute. A candidate working in an R & D establishment and desiring
to do research at his/her parent institution must also provide detailed
information about the research facilities present at his/her organization and a
certificate that these would be available to him/her for carrying out research.
The candidate will be required to furnish their employers consent (Annexture 1)
at the time of interview. The candidate under sponsorship category is not
required to have GATE/NET qualification.
5.FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE:
Students joining the Ph.D. programme as regular
candidates will be considered for institute fellowship based on the following
norms:
Those students having B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch /
M.Phil. / B.Sc.(Engg)/ M.Sc. / M.A. /M.Com. or equivalent and who have either a
valid GATE score or National Level test–UGC / CSIR / NBHM / DBT etc. (JRFship)
will be considered for monthly assistantship of Rs. 18,000/- for 4 years.
Those students having M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Arch /
M.Sc.(Engg) or equivalent and Management students with M.B.A. qualification
with Engineering /Technical background will be considered for monthly
assistantships of Rs. 18,000/- for 4 years. The candidate should have cleared
GATE/NET as applicable to the specific discipline before or after master’s
degree.
The Assistantship/Fellowships will be payable for 4
years (or the granting agency) or date of submission of thesis, whichever is
earlier. Continuation of financial aid is contingent to satisfactory
performance. Any act of indiscipline is likely to result in withdrawal of
financial aid.

along with demand draft of Rs. 500/- (Five hundred only) in favor of
"Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology"payable at “Rae
Bareli” and necessary enclosures should reach at the following address latest
by November 25th 2012. Please mark the envelope “Application form for PhD
Programme” You need to bring all the documentary evidences in original
(testimonials, certificates, publications, work experience and
research/professional experience) along with a self attested photocopy of each
at the time of interview.
