University of Madras has invited applications from eligible candidates for the admission to Full time/Part time Ph.D Degree programmes in the Departments/Colleges and Recognised Research Institutions of the University, for July 2010 session.

Candidate with a Master's Degree with not less than 55% marks or equivalent Grade are eligible to apply. For SC/ST candidates and  all other candidates who have completed PG Degree before 1991 are allowed relaxation of 5% in their qualifying examination.
Selection is purely based on an Entrance Examination comprising Written and Oral methods.

For Part-time Ph.D courses following candidates are also eligible to apply: (1) a teacher working in the Department of the University or of an affiliated College of the University or HSS or HS or polytechnic within the territorial jurisdiction and with a qualifying degree fullfilling the above eligibility. (2) Teachers of affiliated colleges holding NET/SLET qualification or M.Phil Degree with one year of teaching experience after MPhil Degree and Teachers of Higher Secondary School/High School and polytechnic with two years experience after the qualifying degree  and (3) Candidate employed other than as teacher in a permanent job, within the territorial jurisdiction of the university with a minimum of four years of total working experience put in after the qualifying degree and satisfying the rules framed separately by the syndicate from time to time.

Application forms can be obtained from the Enquiry Office of Madras University on payment of Rs.500/- by way of an A/C Payee Demand Draft from any Nationalised Bank drawn in fvour of " The Registrar, University of Madras, Chennai -600005" payable at Chennai.

Filled in application forms along with attested Xerox copies of all the certificates are to reach The Head of the Department of the University/Principal of the College/Director of Research Institution concerned.

The last date for submission of application form is 01-07-2010.
