MBBS/BDS/BAMS Admissions 2012
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has invited applications for admission to MBBS/BDS/BAMS courses at various Institutes of the Viswa Vidyapeetham. MBBS is offered at Amrita School of Medicien, BDS course at Amrita School of Dentistry both at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Health Scieces campus at Kochi, while BAMS course is conducted in Amritapuri Campus, Kollam District. Selection to the Programmes will be based on a national level entrance test to be conducted by the University. There are 100 seats for MBBS and 60 seats each for BDS and BAMS.
For admission to MBBS/BDS/BAMS courses, only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or before 31st December 1995 are eligible. So applicant should be at least 17 years of age as on 31st December 2012, but should not have crossed the age of 23 years as on that date. Date of birth as recorded in the 10th standard /school leaving certificate will be taken as authentic.
Applicant must have passed Plus two or equivalent examination in first attempt with the last two years of such study including Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English (Biotechnology subject will be considered only for MBBS) and should have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-Technology and English individually and obtained a minimum of 60% marks in English and 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology / Biotechnology taken together, from any State Higher Secondary Board or Equivalent (Biotechnology will be considered only for MBBS). Exemptions in chances may be considered only on medical grounds and the decision of the Chairman-Admissions will be final and binding.
Applicant should also secure 50% marks in the Amrita Entrance Examination Medical to be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS. For SC/ST candidates, minimum marks required in plus two is 50% and it will be 40% in the Amrita Entrance Examination.
Those studying in foreign countries following a syllabus other than any Indian syllabus should produce an Equivalence Certificate from The Association of Indian Universities, A.I.U House, 16 Comrade Indrajit Gupta Marg [Kotla Marg], New Delhi-110002 (Telephone:01123230059, Fax:01123232131, e-mail: administration@aiuweb.org).
Those applicants whose results of the qualifying examination are not available can also write the Amrita Entrance Examination subject to their producing the mark list of the qualifying examination on or before 5th June 2012. No separate communication will be issued calling for the marks list. Failure to submit the marks list will be to the disadvantage of the candidate. Candidates should write the Hall ticket number on the mark list while submitting it separately. Candidates who send the mark list along with the application form need not send it again.

The common Examination for admission to MBBS, BDS and BAMS (Ayurveda) will be held from 10 am to 12.30 pm on 19th May 2012 (Saturday) at Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kozhikode, Kochi, Amritapuri (Kollam), Thiruvananthapuram and California, U.S.A. It will have 150 objective type questions with approximately 25 questions from Physics, 35 from Chemistry, 70 from Biology / Biotechnology, 10 from English and 10 from General knowledge. The syllabus for Amrita Entrance Examination will be as per the 10 + 2 examination (CBSE). Each MCQ will consist of a stem and four options, labelled A, B, C and D. Only one of the options is correct and for each correct response the candidate will be awarded three marks and for each incorrect response one mark will be deducted from the total score.
As per http://aims.amrita.edu/school-of-medicine/mbbs_admission.php the tuition fee per annum for MBBS is Rs.4,50,000/- while for BDS, it is Rs.3,00,000/-. The cost of application form is Rs.1500/-.
Application forms will be available from selected branches of Dhanalaxmi Bank and Federal bank as per the list available at http://aims.amrita.edu/school-of-medicine/mbbs_admission.php . An envelope printed with the address to which filled forms are to be sent, is provided along with the application and the applicant is required to use it for submission of the completed form.
Application form can also be had from the Office by Speed post/Courier on payment of Rs.1,570/- by way of DD drawn in the name of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, payable at Kochi. The Entrance Examination is common for selection of students for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery), BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery). Applicants may choose the course(s), they are really interested in. Choice may be indicated as specified in the Booklet of admissions. No separate confirmation about choice will be asked. Despite the choice mentioned, candidate can participate in counseling on the basis of their rank in the Entrance exam, and opt for a course for which seat is available at the time of counseling.
Before mailing the completed applications, applicant should ensure that he/she has kept the following documents in the bigger envelope.
(a)Application Form duly filled and pasted with three Photographs all duly attested by the candidate. One should be on the application form, second on the Hall Ticket and the third on the attendance card. Applicant should not tear the Hall Ticket and attendance card from the application form.
(b)Plus two marks list if available(stapled to the application form)
(c)Demand Draft of Rs.1500/- in case of Online or down loaded application forms. Candidates who opt to appear from the US Centre should submit a DD for US $ 300 in favour of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham payable at Kochi. Applicants should write his/her name, course opted for and the Examination Centre chosen, on the reverse of the DD.
