Refresher Course on Extension Management 

September 19-October 9, 2012 

India has a very large extension system and Indian  Council of Agricultural Research and State Agricultural Universities play important role in technology generation and its transfer through their unique set up of KVKs and other institutes. The arrangements for agricultural extension in India have grown, over the last five decades, in terms of activities, organizational types and available human resource. Extension personnel engaged in rural development in general, and agricultural development in particular are experiencing fresh challenges in the wake of the ongoing process of trade liberalization and globalization of markets after the implementation of WTO accord.  These processes are pressing Indian agriculture to become more and more competitive and efficient.  To keep pace with these changes, it has become imperative for the faculty involved in extension programmes of the SAUs and ICAR institutes to reorient their extension management skills. This refresher course on Extension Management is being organized to sensitize the participants to the latest approaches and techniques for transfer of technology.  It will also refresh them on time tested principles and techniques of extension management.  

Objectives 

 After completion of the refresher course the participants will be able to: 

• Understand emerging issues and trends in extension management 

• Use selected extension methods in their job situations 

• Use and handle latest instructional material for transfer of technology. 

• Develop course objectives, course contents and course design for organizing an effective training programme 

Pedagogy  

The training style will be participative and action oriented.  The training programme will consist of a balanced blend of lectures, talks, group discussions, group exercises, case studies simulations, exercises, and practical sessions.    The programme will largely be interactive and the participants will get ample opportunity for acquisition of new knowledge, skills and attitude.  They will be able to share their experiences, identify problems and work out their solutions.  Participants The course has been designed for the teachers/scientists/extension specialists working in SAUs, ICAR Institutes, State Universities, Colleges and other  organizations. A total of 25 candidates will be registered for this course.  The last date for the receipt of nominations is September 04, 2012. 

Seats for participants will be reserved on first-come first-serve basis. Nominations will also be accepted through fax or e-mail. 

Registration Fee 

The participants are required to pay a sum of Rs.2000/- (Rs. Two thousand only) as registration  fee. The registration fee shall be deposited in cash at the time of registration on September 19, 2012. 

Evaluation 

The participants, through a well-designed questionnaire, will evaluate the programme for its quality suitability 

and usefulness. Likewise, the participants will also be subjected to a formal assessment.  

Travel and Other Arrangements

No expenses travel or otherwise, will be borne by the Academy. The sponsoring Department will meet the expenditure on TA/DA and registration fee of the participants as per their rules.  Accommodation in the University Faculty House will be arranged for outstation participants on receipt of request in advance. Simple 

vegetarian food will be served at the University Faculty House on nominal charges to be paid by the participants. 

Location 

Hisar is located about 180 km. from Delhi at National Highway No.10.  There is a frequent bus service from 

ISBT, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi throughout the day for Hisar.  Hisar is also well connected with Ludhiana, Jaipur 

and Delhi by train.  The climate of Hisar is likely to be pleasant during the course.
