1. Bharathiar University will hold the State Eligibility Test (SET) on Sunday. 07th October 2012 for determining the eligibility ol Indian Nationals lor rccniimcnt ol Lecturers in Universities and Colleges in Tamil Nadu & Union Territory ol Puduchcrry in the subjects listed in item No.7 at the centers listed in item 8 below.
2. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
i) Only those Candidates who have completed / arc pursuing PG degree arc eligible to appear in SET. Others need not apply.
ii) Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without grace or rounding off in Master's Degree (or) equivalent examination arc eligible lor this test. The Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Physically Challenged (PC) / Visually Challenged (VC) category candidates who have secured
at least 55% marks (without grace or rounding oil! in Master's Degree Examination are eligible lor this Examination.
iii) Candidates who have appeared (or) will be appearing at the qualifying Master's Degree Examination and whose results are still awaited (or) candidates whose examinations have been delayed may also apply lor this lest However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Lectureship eligibility only after they have passed their Master's Degree examination (or) equivalent with
at least 55% marks (50% in case of SOST/PC/VC category candidates). Such candidates must obtain their P.G. degree Markshcct within two years Irom the dale ol SET result with required percentage of marks, tailing which they will be treated asdisqualified.
iv) The Ph.D degree holders whose Masters level examination had been completed by 19th September 1999 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for relaxation of 5% of marks Irom 55% to 50% to appear in SET Examination.
v) Candidates have to appear for SET in the subject of their Pest Graduation only.
vi) CANDIDATES SHOULD NOTE THAT THEIR CANDIDATURE IS PROVISIONAL. THE MERE FACT THAT AN ADMISSION CARD HAS BEEN ISSUED TO A CANDIDATE WILL NOT IMPLY THAT THE UNIVERSITY HAS FINALLY ACCEPTED HIS/HER CANDIDATURE. CANDIDATE MAY NOTE THAT THEIR CANDIDATURE WILL BE DEEMED FINAL UPON VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBIL1TY CONDITIONS.
vii) The UGC is considering the OBC candidates as per the Central List of 'Government of India' forgiving relaxation in NET Examinations. Further, it has been decided that for SET Examinations, which arc valid within the respective state. OBC candidates as per the List maintained by the respective slate, may also be allowed to be eligible for relaxation in qualifying marks in SET examination, in addition lo the OBC candidates as per the Central List maintained by Govt, of India.
viii) Candidates seeking concession in fee arc required lo submit attested copy of their OBC ISC 1ST/PC/VC certificate along with their Application Forms. Other candidates arc not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their Application Form. Thcrclorc. the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility lor the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the university at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
3. AGE LIMIT : No Upper age limit
4. EXEMPTION (ELIGIBILITY FOR LECTURESHIP)
i) NET/SLET'SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Univcrsitics/Colleges/Institutions. Provided, however, thai candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Pfocedurc lor Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulation. 2009''. shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET tor recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/Institution.
ii) For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the Stale Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Lectureship held prior to 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates arc eligible to apply tor the post of lecturer only in the universities/colleges belonging to the stale from where they have cleared their SET.
5. EXAMINATION FEE AND MODE OF PAYMENT
For General Candidate, the examination tec is Rs 1000/-. for Other backward classes (08 C) the fee is Rs.750/- and Rs.250f- tor SC/ST/Physically Challenged /Visually Challenged.
Examination fee has lo be paid through Bank Challan by downloading from www.b-u.ac.in/set2012. Fee once paid will not be refunded undcrany circumstances.
i) The test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on Sunday. 07th October 2012 in two separate sessions as mentioned below.

Paper-I will be of general nature intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude ol the candidates. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension divergent thinking and general awareness ol the candidates. Papcr-I shall consist ot sixty (60) multiple choice questions ot two marks each, out ol which the candidate would be required to answer only fifty (50). In the event ot the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first titty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
Paper-II shall consist of 50 compulsory objective type questions. The candidates will have to mark their responses lor questions of paper-l and paper-II on the optical mark reader (OMR) sheet provided along with the test booklet.
I). Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidates. Each question carries 2 marks. A scperatc OMR sheet will be issued lor marking.
The candidates, who do not appear in Paper I. will not be permitted to appear in Paper II & Paper III.
2) The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper I. Paper II and Paper III as given below

i) Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separately, as mentioned above, will be considered for final preparation of result However, the final qualifying criteria lor Eligibility lor Lectureship shall be decided by SET 2012 Moderation Committee before the declaration of result.
ii) For Visually challenged candidates, thirty minutes extra time shall be provided separately lor Paper I and Paper II. For Paper III. forty five minutes extra lime shall be provided. They will also be provided with a scribe who should be a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidates. Those Physically challenged candidates who arc not in position to write in their own handwriting can also avail these services by making prior request in writing lo the Chief Superintendent of the test centre. Extra time and facility ot scribe would not be provided toother Physically Challenged candidates.
iii) Syllabus lor the Test Question paper lor Paper I is common for all the subjects in which SET is conducted and it will be bilingual (English and Tamil). Paper II and Paper III of certain subjects will also be bi-Iingual and details arc furnished below. The syllabus for Paper I. Paper II and Paper III will not be sent to the candidates by the University. The candidates can download the syllabus of fheirsubjecis from the university website: www.b-u.ac.in (or) ugc website : www.ugc.ac.in.

9. STEPS FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM
i. The candidates arc required to down load /print the Bank Challan Prolorma Irom tbc Bharathiar University website www.b-u.ac.in/scl2012 and tben deposit the requisite Examination tec in any branch ot the following banks along with the bank charges (commission) of Rs.25/-. The Candidates art required to set up page settings in the browser before taking tbc print out

ii. Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the following : (i) Scanned passport (pp) size photograph in JPEG format Make sure it should be 206 x 240 Pixel dimension (w x hi and less than 200kb (ii) Scanned copy of Bank Challan (fee remittance receipt) in JPEG format: Make sure it should be less than 300kb.
iii. Candidate seeking admission to the Test must apply online (i.e. through a link available on the Bharathiar University website: www.b-u.ac.in/set2012). The last date lor submission of online application will be 31.08.2012.
iv. After successful submission, the candidate should take printout of online Application Form (two copies). Attendance Slip (one copy) and Ad mission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.
v. SC/ST/PC/VC candidates and candidates belonging to BC/MBC/SC/SCT must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same.
vi. Candidates seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate ol educational qualification/research experience entitling the candidates forage relaxation, (lordetails, please sec item no. 4).
vii. The Application (consisting of one copy of printout of online application form, one copy of Attendance Slip, one copy of Admission Card and the fee challan) along with required documents must reach "THE SECRETARY, SET2012. BHARATHIAR UNIVERSITY. COIMBATORE -641046" on or before 07.09.2012,
viii. Application with required documents received alter 07.09.2012 will be rejected.
ix. Before applying Online, candidates arc advised to go through detailed notification available on Bharathiar University website (i.e. www.b-u.ac.in and www.b-u.ac.in/sct2012). Please note that fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order. Demand Draft IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.
The envelope containing the Application Form should be superscribed "STATE ELIGIBILITY TEST 2012". The candidates must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, in the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/Principal of the Collcgc'Class-1 Gazetted Officer.
In order to avoid last minute rush, the candidates arc advised to apply early enough. The University will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature In the submission of online application during closing days.
